Martia: They say that there has never been so many people in Aus suffering from Depression in fact its nearly an epidemic.

WHY....To get started look at the media for instance Newspaper's and TV are the main culprits.
Every where you look is mayhem and misery the more the better.

I do not agree with reporting the continual pain of others ....like going into detail about how they feel all the time especially like the Danial Morcombe murder getting the parents to give press conferences draining every feeling they can out of them, its so cruel.

When those 8 children and relations were burnt to death in that house fire the mourners even stopped the search of the last two bodies so they could appear on TV to talk about their pain and grieving without a thought for those brave men and woman looking for them.....surely they could have done that when the last two bodies were retrieved.

I now feel guilty for even bring that up but why do the public want to see that ?

Remember Lady Di's death and funeral ! day in day out could not believe it.....people sobbing their eyes out ...Why for goodness sake she wasent a close friend or relative (mass hysteria)once again the herd syndrome.

And I have touched on only the tip of the iceburg.

What is it that is in lot of us to prefer bad news to good.????? also seeing people stop to look at an accident hoping to see a dead or maimed body.

Haven't we got enough to contend with without the brainwashing that goes on from the Media 24 hours a day.

Dont get me wrong! I just cannot understand it going on and on until something newer comes up,then the previous story is dropped like a hot potato leaving behind utter confusion sometimes.

The Media stated a long time ago that if it printed or showed much good news it would hardly sell a paper or get an audience.

I may add my two cents worth. Not long ago I read an article that suggested that one of the Omega oils may help you to avoid it. I need to try to dig out the article. But if you take flex seed oil you have all three oils.

Fact - most Australians are overweight if not in the obese or morbid obese BMI range
fact - many Australians don't know the difference between a nutrional meal and a heart attack in a maccas package
Fact - most Australians do little to no exercise at all and find basic movement like jogging a chore they cannot perform due to their extreme pc/internet addictions causing their bodies to go into melt down
****Fact - losing weight and exercise reduces the incidence of deppression.****

Fact - people who are feeling down (as against depression) have to listen to crap like this.

Fact - when you are depressed don't need crap like this.

Fact - when you are depressed, you need positive help.

Fact - when you are depressed, it is so much easier to buy a Maccas (hate the stuff) or nuke food for 4 minutes than spend the time facing ignorant people in the shops buying decent nutritional food (1/2 hour) and then preparing/cooking the tasteless (yes, it gets that way) for another 1/2 hour and then having to eat it on your own.

So daghead, don't get so condescending about something you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

Oh I know what you mean I am now nearly 6kg overweight I always seem to put it on over winter.I have to go for a walk every day If I dont Maybelle starts yodelling, Shane starts mumbling, Rio starts bouncing and Oscar goes around in circles put all 4 together and the weight would be about 175 kg cannot let them get any heavier as its hard enough to get any one of them off the sofa as it is.
sigh
Just a thought idea For all we know you could be one of those Aussies that you are talking about ....If your not I am sure there are a few ladies on here that would love to have a quick peep at you.comfort

Some people have no idea, because of their ignorance, how bad they make you feel. Maybe it's negative people who don't help or they just don't give a toss.conversing

Yeah, chocolate... another article I read a years or so ago said it is the antioxidant in the chocolate that helps, but you don't get it in processed cocoa (ie chocolate), you need the organic cocoa powder. It is very powerful to clean your arteries, but can you handle the constipation it causes? laugh

I have found the article about depression, it came from Swanson:

"In a year, 13 to 14 million people experience a depressive disorder. In fact, 16% of all adults will experience depression at some age. Women experience depression twice as much as men and about six million elderly people suffer from depression. The statistics go on and on. Depression is a serious issue in the United States.

The Mayo Clinic defines depression as a medical illness that involves the mind and body. "Also called major depression, major depressive disorder and clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and behave," the Mayo Clinic states. "Depression can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. You may have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities, and depression may make you feel as if life isn’t worth living. More than just a bout of the blues, depression isn’t a weakness, nor is it something that you can simply ‘snap out’ of. Depression is a chronic illness that usually requires long-term treatment, like diabetes or high blood pressure."

Some of the signs of depression include feelings of sadness or unhappiness; irritability or frustration; loss of interest or pleasure in normal activities; changes in appetite; agitation or restlessness; slowed thinking, speaking or body movements; indecisiveness, distractibility and decreased concentration; fatigue, tiredness and loss of energy.

That brings us to a group of researchers in Italy who have reported some success in dealing with the symptoms of depression in elderly women by supplementing with omega-3 fatty acids. While much work still needs to be done, there is progress being made. See my first report to find out the details about this new study."

Well, fish oil must be great, even if regulatory bodies don't accept that there is sufficient evidence. However, the Eskimos that live on fish don't get heart problems, and that's all the evidence I need for myself laugh

And have you seen the size of Americans?
Couldn't be they are depressed like Oprah about their ballooning waistelines?
All i know is many people have spoken about how their general wellbeing has benefited by a proper diet with the essential minerals obtained from the likes of red capsicum, broccoli, seeds, nuts and other elements many fast fooders go without. Exercise is a no brainer, but this is something nobody wants to do but know it is good for them. bit like hitting your head with a hammer, why do you keep doing it, 'cos it feels so good when you stop.
Maybe go without the hippie weed, alcohol and other crap and see how you feel afterwards?
