What really ticks me off and makes me ill is that our US government

can always find the funding to police other countries.... But it can't

find the funds to protect it's very own citizens.

Something is mighty sick about all this.

more gun crime means more guns which means more gun crime etc etc
but americans do not think that way,
how long before america has a wild west type shoot out with armed people taking on armed crims,, confusion fear bad aim ,,good idea ???

For a time in the old west there were gangs that robbed banks and some trains. But it became common knowledge that the town's people killed the robbers in hails of bullets and that came to a stop.
I lived in a small town in Georgia just outside Atlanta named Kennesaw. There was a terrible problem with home break-ins, and the locals biz out on the hiway being robbed that had gone on for years.
It was made a law that every homeowner own a gun!
Several robbers got shot down in the act by homeowners in the following 6 months or so, but then guess what?
The robberies just stopped almost as if by magic!!
The articles about robberies went from 3 to 4 a week ( sometimes more) of home break-ins to 1 every month or two.
As robbers got shot and the cops came around to bag them and say thanks to the homeowner.
So claim whatever you wish I saw and lived it that having guns DOES stop crime cold!! If it works in a small town like Kennesaw Ga. it will work anywhere!
The Mayor of Kennesaw was on Johnny Carson about this so that tells you how long ago it worked, and still works today!!

purr4mance: First off I do not think it’s conducive to a child’s psyche in having armed guards patrolling hallways.

I do support 2 officials from each school thoroughly trained to handle and use 1 issued weapon secured in an undisclosed location of their choosing ( 2 officials in case 1 is absent).

Crack down on the gun shows as I believe the other day I heard some 45% of guns are sold and transfer hands through this outlet. ( I would eliminate completely)

I support smart gun tech. If you feel that you require a high powered rifle or hand gun for protection then you will be required during licensing procedures to have a chip embedded in your hand that matches the chip of that high powered weapon in order to fire it. Those that already have these weapons will be required to immediately secure chip. Yearly inspection of embedded chip/ weapon synergy through local police departments as well as examination of mental well being with creditable references stating of such. The examination service will not be free and owners of these high powered weapons will be charged a fee by there local municipality.

thumbs up You go Purr....Tell them how it should be done. Kids don't need to see armed guards around every corner in school. When little children go to school they see it as a way to learn and have fun time with their friends. Little Grace McDonnel, 7 years old from Newton, CT loved school so much that she skipped all the way to school. I doubt children are going to want to go to school, much less skip, if they know they will be around guns. Children from all over the U.S. are going to remember what happened in Newton, CT. When they see guns, it's not going to be a good environment for them to learn or feel safe.

You all know that each school is only going to get one or two armed guards. So it is not like they are going to be turned into a armed military camps.

In Utah.....200 teachers are getting free gun training. In special program by the NRA and a gun show, 200 UTAH teachers will get hand gun training in a 4 hour course. Utah is one of the few states to have gun on campus.

Had Adam Lanza walked into a Utah school and pulled out his hand guns, he might been met with return fire from a armed teacher.

Also the NRAs is now saying that the US Sky Marshal program, implemented post 911, to protect US airliners with armed guards might be a model for the school program. The advantage of the Sky Marshal program is that the armed agent acts just like a normal passenger.

Sky Marshal have aided in a number of attempted hijacking and public disturbance cases onboard passenger jets.

In LA they are offering a $200 gift card in a gun turn in program. If this meets with the same results as a earlier turn in program....some 1600 guns of all types will be taken off the LA streets. In Los Angles, a city of 6m for gun shops to sell 1600 weapons in legal transactions in a day is easy. In the city with large number of gangs, illegal sells of gun like amounts to 1600 guns in a week's period.

some Firearms just make a little bigger holes than others, but even the power of a .22LR is quite sufficient to do the Job!
High-Power Firearms is just another Myth by Politicians, like "Assaultweapons!
Outside Politics absolutely meaningless!

What is remarkable about this is that the gun control advocates who have, among other things, called for all of the National Rifle Association’s 4.3 million members to be murdered, seem to be completely indifferent to whether their proposals would actually do any good. If someone (like the Star Tribune’s editorial board) is going to argue that the characteristics of the rifle that Adam Lanza used demand that we ban assault weapons, shouldn’t they at least make sure that Lanza’s rifle was, in fact, an assault weapon? And if they don’t care enough to ascertain this basic fact, what does that tell us about the seriousness of their proposals? Are we dealing here with a sincere effort to reduce violent crime, or with mere political posturing?

The correct answer is “Maybe,” or, more specifically, “Maybe, but probably not.” The specific model of the Bushmaster rifle has not been publicly disclosed, and without knowing that we cannot tell whether it is an assault weapon as defined in the defunct federal law. (The phrase “assault weapon” has no meaning apart from the federal law; it was invented by politicians for political reasons.) We can guess that it probably isn’t, since Connecticut already bans the sale of “assault weapons,” and there is no indication that Nancy Lanza bought or owned her guns illegally.

I don't see the leap to gun violence? Yes USA is up there - so is Canada, Switzerland etc, etc. - we humans by nature are violent creatures - we also have the capacity to form great civilizations - we are social creatures too - surely we can solve one aspect of our nature with the other.

Is it not interesting that the deposed dictator Ben Ali of Tunisia, had such strict gun laws that the country had the lowest gun rate in the world. 1 gun for every 100 persons.

And a low gun rate per person does not mean Civil unrest and revolution is not going to come to a country. Liberia has only 1.6 guns per person, but Liberia has been torn with a number of civil unrest and revolutions in modern times.

In Yemen, one of the world's poorest countries. The estimate number of guns is between 8m and 11m. Or about 55gun per 100 people. Civilian guns out number the total number of gov't guns (military and police 350,000) by about 20 to 1. Yemen was also the home of bin Laden and the present AQAP.

Yemen has had internal strife for years. In country were gasoline is paid for by AK-47 rounds, it also has number of gun laws. Which are largely ignored by the people. Guns should be registered by law.

Since 2008, the Yemen government has confiscated some 600,000 weapons.
They had had US funded buy back programs. Enforced a no gun policy in the cities. But AQAP will still control parts of the country.

The NRA have some whack-a-do spokespersons and leaders right now -

the general membership does not support the current words and philosophy of the NRA leadership as seen in some of blogs and webpages.

Let's let the teachers teach our children science and math and history and geography and psychology and art -

let's leave the teaching of religion and guns to the parents in the comfort of their homes and faiths.
