Most of the cost of hosting the olympics is the cost of security. This is incredibly already costing 50 Billion so far. Which country can afford this? None can................
Is it worth it to keep these games going? What do you think:

Some of it might have to do commercialism brought about by having pros. participate. 1984 was the first year of Pros. If you look at Hockey in the Olympics, they are all pros., if it comes down to a Canada vs. US final, it is basically an NHL allstar game. I think the games were much better with amateurs. IMO.

I read somewhere that is was hosting the Olymics that bankrupted Greece... well not entirely but it certainly didn't help. The expensive venues they built are almost never used.
Summer or winter Olympics should be staged every 4 years,in the country who created them, Greece. All nations have to contribute for permanent facilities, from stadiums and living quarters for athletes and their officials. It goes without saying when facilities not in use, each country contributes its share of maintaining, the sporting fields and living quarters.

Conrad73: You think the Olympic Committee would go for it?
Its a thought with many supporters across the globe.considering the cost staging, summer or winter Olympics.Of course the Olumpic Committee officials, for their own financial reasons, they would object on such a move, unless the majority of countries, demands such a move.
chris27292729: Its an idea favor by many non Greeks. The cost of staging Olympics games is sky rocketing, and the facilities,in most staged cities, as soon the Olympics are over, they remain as "White elephants".
i m against spending huge amount on sports too.its really getting out of hands .

tomcatwarne: It's reminiscent of the dying days of the Roman Empire.
