Ken_19Winchester, Virginia USA68 Threads 26 Polls 1,055 PostsActually, I think the USA should copy the idea. Build a base or three just inside our territorial waters. One could be a decent Naval firing range to replace the one we closed down off Puerto Rico. Also since aircraft carriers are becoming obsolete, why not a plane base filled with fuel and Burger Kings and Marines? Army kind of still has the same problem regarding firing artillery on the mainland. Much un-needed travel sometimes to train troops on this or that. Reduce it. Some man built island 150 miles off Boston or some such. Missiles, mortars, etc. all pre positioned there. No neighbors to worry about if a shell goes errant. Inside our own territory too. Support sevices on site means jobs for the closest state. Build it 50 feet or so out of the water so a Hurricane is less of a problem. Put deep water berths in. Dry docks, all that jazz. Cheaper long term than a land base and much fewer political issues. Just a thought. Still let's see how China's idea weathers a Monsoon.

The economical stress between parts of China is incredible.
The competitions between several ports and their provinces is huge. Loosing business would mean defeat. Every province is lying about their growth to get more power. Losing power would mean losing face.
The economical unbalance is huge between the countryside and developed country cities is huge.
There are language and cultural barriers too.
I fear there will be uprisings, and later a split.
