They were unearthed from the shores of Lake Turkana in Kenya, and date to 3.3 million years ago. They predate man (Homo Sapiens) by Millions of years as Homo Sapiens is only 200,000 years old as a species. They are at least 700,000 years older than any other tools ever found. They also predate many of Man's early contemporary species such as Homo Neanderthalus or Homo Hablis.

The find, reported in Nature, suggests that more ancient species, such as Australopithecus afarensis or Kenyanthropus platyops, may have been more sophisticated than was thought.

Dating of the volcanic ash and minerals around the tools suggests that they are 3.3 million years old.

The scientists do not know who made the tools discovered in Kenya.

Dr Ignacio de la Torre, from University College London's Institute of Archaeology, described this as "a game-changing" find.

"It's the most important discovery in the last 50 years," he told BBC News.

"It suggests that species like Australopithecus might have been intelligent enough to make stone tools - that they had the cognitive and manipulative abilities to carry tasks like this out."

Strong evidence of evolution I would think. Mans cognitive abilities developed in very small increments and depended on what we believed were primitive apes?

Yep, all scientists that have studied the data, have confirmed the stone tools... This is major ! ... joy And so, we rewrite history books.

Well it is very weird. Most of the hominids around when Man evolved from whatever 200,000 years ago used tools. However there is no evidence of Man doing ANYTHING beyond leaving some skeletons behind for the next 100,000 years. No tools, no ritual burials, nothing, nada, zip. Then suddenly after 100,000 years of survival without tools Man suddenly starts copying the other hominids tools, making cave drawings, burials with skins, etc.The other hominids die off about 50,000 - 25,000 years ago and Man is last one standing.

Very interesting discovery, Ken.

I am sure there will be more artefacts found in the future to throw further questions out there.

That is why archaeology is so interesting.

And Homo Sapien Sapien may not be the end of the evolutionary thread either.

Homo Luminous may be around the corner daisy

Probably a lot more to come. It's interesting and probably a lot of current teachings will change after new recoveries.

I'm one, in a small camp of those that believe, that God Kings once roamed the earth... The video depicts, descendants of modern day Greeks vs. the descendants of modern day Iranians (Persians)... Evil can evolve in many forms, from a young girl flopping around in a bed, to the possession of Government Leaders. Not all fallen angles, or demons have the same abilities.

only shows that all theories are only "possibilities". we know nothing about our origin. only validates all theories, even the most "ridiculous".

I would very much like to see source material for this 100,000 year gap you profess. having done a great deal of study in the area of mans evolution of tools. I have never heard this claim made.
