They probably aren't.

Interpreting profiles correctly is a must. If said profile clearly indicates a person is seeking a serious relationship it is worth investigating. If, on the other hand it comes across as yes, no, maybe it more than likely means they don't know what they want and this leads to all sorts of misunderstandings.
