galrads: Phyllis, you live around very beautiful country. I've spent time north of there, mostly in Sonoma when I worked for EPA. There's a lot of high tech business located there. I always found time to venture into the surrounding valleys and taste some good wines.
My favorite places in So Cal were Lake Elsinore, Big Bear Lake, Newport Beach and Corona Del Mar
Chris I am from Sonoma county which is the current seat of the wine capital of the world, supposedly, I am not sure anymore. I live by Alexander Valley and it is beautiful. Three hours to Tahoe which is one of the most beautiful place in the world for me, very similar to St. Moritz or Interlaken and an hour away from Bodega Bay. Yeah, I would say, it is beautiful. One hour away from San Francisco and still a very country like atmosphere because of the vineyards.
Lake Elsinore is beautiful, too. I admit, I do go and shop at Santa Monica once in a while. Newport Beach is wonderful, not as windy as in Huntington or Malibu.

Lucky You!
I miss a lot about California.... especially sailboating at Corona Del Mar.
The only things I don't like about Northern Ca is Pacific Coast Highway at rush hour or when the Giants have a home game.
Tell me you have a sail boat and I'll be right there!
galrads: I like Trumps views on our foreign policy. There are so many hypocrites out there. The Pope, for instance, wants us to not buIld walls, yet the Vatican is surrounded by walls. We spend money on military that helps others, yet our infrastructure has suffered for it in the past. However other countries that we helped one way or another, have great infrastructure, especially numerous transportation options.
Our highway system, especially bridges, are in terrible shape. Go to Israel and look at their main highways. Although littered with burnt out military equipment in places, they are new. They actually have billboards everywhere saying something about their gratitude for U.S. tax dollars which built or replaced the roads.
I like the slogan 'America First!' Why not.
really, If we are gonna keep on as the World's POlice we hafta start charging more
rizlared: I heard nothing new, the same rhetoric, words that he knows his audience want to hear.
Didn't Obama say much the same? Made some great speeches, people saw him as the new saviour, then what happened?
Why would Trump winning change the European political scene? I don't understand that opinion.
Well, for starters that could mean the end of this horrible religion of political correctness - either the ones in power now will turn another leaf or the new ones will come into power. Without this rule of PCers, things are likely to change here.
Additionally, if the US changes its stance towards Russia, European politicians, who always follow the US like their lap dogs, may realize that Russia should be our friend not a foe and that is actually in the interest of Europe.

lindsyjones: I support everything he stands for and represent Chris.
I am reading the speech over and over again and it all make sense. He did mention not to help other countries that directly cause to weaken us. And your example is right. We have to consider what is of utmost importance in our policies, relative to peace, our peace and productivity.
Yes, I am losing respect to the Pope for that hypocrisy as you mentioned.
Thomas Jefferson, in the 1790s, awaited the fall of the Spanish Empire "until our population can be sufficiently advanced to gain it from them piece by piece." In turn, historian Sidney Lens notes that "the urge for expansion – at the expense of other peoples – goes back to the beginnings of the United States itself." Yale historian Paul Kennedy put it, "From the time the first settlers arrived in Virginia from England and started moving westward, this was an imperial nation, a conquering nation."
In the late 19th century, foreign territories such as Hawaii and Latin America were sought after by the United States. The Teller Amendment and the Platt Amendment were used in unison to grant the United States the right to intervene in those territories if that particular government was deemed unfit to rule itself. The American government now held the power to both criticize and occupy these nations if they were deemed to be unstable. Stuart Creighton Miller says that the public's sense of innocence about Realpolitik impairs popular recognition of U.S. imperial conduct. The resistance to actively occupying foreign territory has led to policies of exerting influence via other means, including governing other countries via surrogates or puppet regimes, where domestically unpopular governments survive only through U.S. support.
The maximum geographical extension of American direct political and military control happened in the aftermath of World War II, in the period after the surrender and occupations of Germany and Austria in May and later Japan and Korea in September 1945 and before the independence of the Philippines in July 1946.

I have no doubt this aggressive imperialism will continue with trump.

Europe must be anxious, for the result of the election and I'm sure England is going to rethink their political position. That's if he wins. They will celebrate if he loses.

galrads: @post # 61 I don't see sanders Vermont followers switching over to Trump.
I think the best thing Trump can do for America is to go Independent I the primary and suck off votes nationwide that would otherwise remain democrat.
There is a possibility is all what the reporter is saying Chris and if that happens, then well and good. If not, I would wait because he is very close to the required number of delegates to prompt him as the candidate.

My bad I intended to say "I think the best thing Trump Sanders can do for America is to go Independent" etc

I agree Chris. I can't believe how blind Hilary's followers are. Soros, by the way has supposedly funneled more than 13 million on her campaign? You know what happens when she wins. We are doomed Chris.
Bishop E.W. Jackson, the former Republican nominee for lieutenant governor in Virginia and fervent Ted Cruz supporter, says the GOP must unite around its presidential nominee, even if it’s Donald Trump, to stop Hillary Clinton from returning to the White House. Read more at
