Bogart_1960: hey, Congo did not ask Belgian or Portuguese (before the Belgians) to "take over", or to join the kingdom(s), . We just went there and invade. brutally. Congo had many kingdoms, as I am sure you know.
regarding Catalonia here are the facts:
1. "In early September, the Catalan government approved several laws that enabled an independence referendum and make it binding. However, the Spanish Supreme Court declared that referendum as suspended because it violates the Spanish constitution which states that Spain is indivisible. Whoever helps to organize this referendum therefore violates the constitution"
2. In 2010 Spain’s Constitutional Court issued a ruling that laid the ground for Sunday’s independence referendum in Catalonia. - Nothing to do with "governments". - read:
a. The announcement that Catalonia will declare independence from Spain within 48 hours if voters back secession.
b. Spanish goverment said the unilateral referendum would not be allowed to take place because as it is illegal and a clear breach of the constitution. (makes sense, anyone could declare independence, street, house, etc)
c. In August 2017 Carles Puigdemont called for an independent Catalan Army. (I am sure he wants to be the king too, carles the dotartd). These are the statements: "armies, defence policies, are absolutely indispensable for global combat”.
This is actual Catalonia (and it is not as gold as we might think):
16% of Spain's population live in Catalonia 25.6% of Spain's exports come from Catalonia 19% of Spain's GDP is produced in Catalonia 20.7% of foreign investment in Spain goes to Catalonia 35.3% of Catalonia's GDP is debt
Nothing to do "with corruption money" in the rest of spain. In fact, one of major scandals in Spain, involves catalonia. ‘Palau case’
A survey in June 2017 showed that 49.4% of Catalans were against independence and 41.1% were in favor.
"The Statute has been legally contested by the surrounding Autonomous Communities of Aragon, Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community, as well as by the Partido Popular (at the time the main opposition party at the Spanish Parliament). The objections are based on various topics such as disputed cultural heritage but, especially, on the Statute's alleged breaches of the "solidarity between regions" principle in fiscal and educational matters enshrined by the Spanish Constitution of 1978."
Emotional facts and reality are quite different. regarding police involvement, If someone breaks the law, they're liable to run into conflict with the police. end of "stories".
Btw, I am in favor of federalism, but not morons like Trump, Puigdemont or Bojo. They are dangerous, as they only see their ego, and short time. But i do understand why brixitards and dotartds want Catalonia independent, but not Scotland or Wales.
thanks for being constructive. but of the case is so clear. why not allow?

I thinks we need to ask the Spanish, French, and Italians, as "Mainstream Catalan nationalism, in power from 1980, has assigned to this nation a wide territory that comprises not only Catalonia but also the current Autonomous Community of Valencia (Alicante, Castellón and Valencia itself), the Balearic Islands, the French region of the Roussillon, a city in Sardinia, Italy, etc. Interestingly, bilingualism (Spanish or French or Italian and Catalan is the norm in those places".
and Spain will end up looking like this
Regarding Basque nation it does expands over the Spanish Basque, Navarre and parts of France (7 territories). makes sense too
The cultural borders of Europe do not match the lines on the map. If you stand in Milan and walk south you arrive in Africa before crossing water and the same is true if you walk south from Barcelona. If you walk south or east from Vienna here too you will find that Europe ends way before the lines as written.[/quote
