KNenagh: When I joined, this was advertised as an Irish site, I didn't know about the international aspect (and never cared much about it for dating purposes). There are lots of people living in Ireland using CS and people have the possibility to restrict who contacts them (distance, age etc.).
I wouldn't be interested in meeting someone living more than one hours drive away from me. To get to know someone, I would like to spend time with each other.
I like where I live, I have a limited amount of time and wouldn't be interested in wasting it emailing someone and seeing him every couple of month. I met himself locally (in RL) and we had the opportunity to spend time with each and become a couple.

I have found my prince charming about 50 minutes drive away (and he was happy to relocate to my place as well).
People want different things. If some people are happy to give a LDR a go, best of luck to each and everyone of them. Others simply aren't interested in trying to start a relationship off that way.

You've been fortunate, but others with filter, may not be as lucky finding someone as local.
My point being, you can't rule anything out, where finding a potential partner is concerned

I guess it took more time in emailing/phoning etc. with you before they made that discovery compared to have met you in your local walking club/on a night out.
