Bogart_1960: There are plenty of factors that causes people to be wary of relationships. You listed a few, and google has the full list.
Humans and humans needs have not changed at all, even this era of easy communication, traveling, and "nothing or too many to choose"- most people dont really know what they really want (as always).
The grass is greener where we water it - whatever we want. Some people want to be single - some enjoy it; some want to "be online"; some want a relationship; some are toxic, etc. Nobody's perfect.
Why I am still single? I don't mind it, and at this stage, I choose to be a bit selective. Also I am very bad at picking up "signals". . .but could be all that too.

Actually, I think it's to blame on the technology.
In my youth, in the evening we played a game within the family, or with friends.
Now children grow up and starts playing games on the computer after school.
Even in the small village where I live I almost never see a group of 10 boys playing football with each other, in my youth that was usual.
Also the fact that mothers are working too, so children have a nanny who don't give them their motherlove. The kids see their parents early in the morning and in the evening after work. Both times their parents are busy fixing breakfast and diner, so they can't give attention to the kids.
In the evening there's television, so people grow up in their own world and don't learn about affection.
On the street everyone is looking on his/her smartphone, so they don't see each other anymore. Also young people are to busy building a carreer.

One2note: Why , in this modern era of technology, are there so many people not in a relationship, with so many options available to them, both at home & in far away places ?
Have past relationships affected your ability to trust , or are you so guarded & self- sufficient anything else ruin that safety of your own environment.
Could your upbringing result in you feeling unsafe , experiencing chaos, upheaval & maybe loss, also have a barring on how you approach a relationship ?
I have dozens and dozens of good reasons not to be in a relationship.Have past relationships affected your ability to trust , or are you so guarded & self- sufficient anything else ruin that safety of your own environment.
