myssmyss: As a former nurse, and having placed and taken out a few catheters, as well as once having one myself, I'll say they did something wrong, if it hurt when it was being taken out, as it shouldn't hurt going in or out. Maybe you offended the nurse in some way that he/she pulled it out so it would hurt.

You must of been lucky as everyone I know who had a catheter inserted then taken out said the pain was terrible
Whether in the medical field or not you can't say because you didn't suffer pain that others don't..Same as some give birth with no pain and others like myself thought we were going to split in half or die for real.

I was catheterised just over 2 weeks ago for my total left hip replacement. I didn't feel it as I was heavily sedated whilst they did that and gave me the epidural. I did however wake up during the op and could hear them hammering away at my hip. I was more interested at looking at the machine readings of my blood pressure and other vitals. They then gave me some more sedation in the back of my hand. When I woke up again, they were putting the staples in. Had the op done on the Monday, was out of bed on the Tuesday, catheter taken out on the Wednesday (didn't hurt at all) and was discharged home that afternoon. Half of the staples taken out yesterday and the rest tomorrow (Thursday) 22 in all.
When I worked in a hospital in the Uk it was all elderly patients. We used to use what we called a "Texas Catheter" for the men during the night so that they didn't wet the bed, then taken off in the morning. They were brilliant..............
nuts turned black and swelled around the size of softball, then got pushed down on shower seat, let loose extensive verbal, 3-30 am next morning the catheter was yanked out by night nurse
