Happiness is an emotion that is, almost always, created by outside circumstances, whereas joy, comes from within and is far deeper.
You could say that happiness is an emotion that we experience whereas joy is more of an attitude that we develop over time, it becomes our inner being.
As for ecstasy, that definitely depends on outside circumstances, or of course inner chemical circumstances...
Either way, ecstasy is, by its very nature, fleeting.
