Its too late, even if every country around the world went carbon neutral, the snowball effect is already in motion and things will still get worst, just at a slower pace.

Even without climate change there are changes in the ecologic system of earth. The honey bee population is going down due to a certain chemical used to kill weeds made by Monsanto. Without the honey bee we would be without honey and many plants that humans use. This can be changed. Remember when a certain bug spray chemical used to kill mosquitoes almost wiped out the eagle population. We removed that chemical and they are now flourishing.

Due to certain dry countries using reverse osmosis to make drinking water from sea water, the seas are getting saltier and this can drastically change the ecology of the sea and eliminate some sea life. This can be changed. Our oceans are being over fished and some sea life could disappear due to it. Many animals are on the endangered list due to humans. They say there are only a thousand bactrian camels (with 2 humps) left on the earth.

chancer_returns: Climate alarmism is a cult, co-opted by political forces who for years now have been losing relevance. No one 'denies' climate change, but what most people do deny is that we should should trust and give over large swathes of our hard earned income to governments who promise they'll fix it all. They won't fix it. They'll just line their own pockets like always and tell us how amazing they are, and all the while mother nature will keep doing her thing regardless.

That's not to say promoting environmental responsibility is a bad thing. It's most certainly a good thing. And it need not involve taxation. The majority of people want to be more environmentally responsible so naturally companies and corporations who act in a more environmentally friendly way are becoming more popular. Also, and most importantly of all, each person is a consumer. We consume. How we consume dictates what is produced, and the environmental impact that follows. Changing our consumption habits definitely makes a difference. Each of us has the power of our own choices. It would be a good idea to educate everyone on how they can live in a more environmentally friendly way, whether that means cutting down on electrical devices or ditching the smartphone, or if it's feasible use public transport or travel by bicycle instead of owning a car. Teach people to grow their own food - reducing packaging waste. And i'm sure there's lots more that can be done besides. But it has to be done positively and importantly the choice lies with the consumer. Trying to force change on people and/or radically increasing taxes will only lead to resentment and civil tension.

Positivity is needed. Not government stealing your money and pretending to play God..
regardless of one's belief regarding climate change,
good stewardship of the land is a good idea.
and like some of the things you mention...start small, and take some personal responsibility.

i read somewhere that if everyone who can, just plant a tree.
plant a tree if you can, or help a public park, or give $ to an organization that can and will plant trees, or even show up and help.

and if you aren't in a tree planting mood......(grin)
make an effort to reduce one's own garbage through purchase choices.
do some recycling, or re-purposing, or buying second hand when possible.
there's a lot one can do just on a personal level that done in large numbers would really contribute to good stewardship of the land.

it drives me crazy that BC is fracking!
it's causing earthquakes.
who in their right mind, does fracking in a subduction zone?
(or anywhere for that matter......)

now that other countries are not so willing to recycle our garbage, i think it's even more important that we take some personal responsibility.
there's lots of benefits.
less packaging means less garbage which means less weight lifting it out to the curb.
recycle - saves you money at the consumer end of products
re-purpose - saves you money and lets you spend some time being creative
buy second hand stuff - save your money for other choices, and less stuff going to the dump
purchase responsibly and avoid some of those packaging costs in your purchases.

No, it's not too late. Even the slightest bit of effort will help.

UPDATE 12/5/19

One of the most stringent set of restrictions on everyday plastic products that litter New Jersey's beaches and waterways passed a significant legislative hurdle Thursday when a key committee approved it.

The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee voted to release the bill that bans plastic retail bags, paper bags, polystyrene food containers and straws after a whirlwind hearing in Trenton.

Supporters expect both houses to vote on the measure before the legislative sessions is up in mid-January.

Dozens of supporters and opponents spoke at the hearing from plastics manufacturers who say it will hurt their industry to environmentalists who say something must be done to stem the tide of plastic pollution in every corner of New Jersey.

Volunteers picked up 11,800 plastic bags, 36,100 straws and 42,000 pieces of polystyrene during Clean Ocean Action's two beach sweeps in 2018, said Peter Blair, an attorney for the advocacy group.

Representatives for the plastics industry and business groups said bans would hurt consumers and stressed recycling as an alternative to bans.

Only 8 percent of plastic materials were recycled nationwide in 2017, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The bill now includes the banning of paper retail bags, which drew some concern from senators who said costumers should be provided that option for a fee.

That's a negative attitude Tom. scold

The article I posted said that 10,800 plastic bags were picked up off the beach IN A TWO WEEK PERIOD.

Think of how many plastic bags could be picked up in 52 weeks in addition to all those straws.

When they built Mt. Rushmore they started at the bottom.

Good things come to those who wait.

try to have a positive attitude, and think solutions.
the problems have been identified, so now it's time to focus on positives like new technologies that reduce carbon footprints, regenerative agriculture, natural solutions.... and personal responsibility.
folks get what they focus on....and that includes en masse

You're thinking that big improvements all at once is the solution.

Think small Tom. Start at the bottom. Just like a new relationship. You build it from the bottom.

If there are events or meetings in your town just go to listen. You might be just the one who starts a project that could eventually spread everywhere.
