the smoke lifted for a bit at 8 p.m. last night ad i managed few photos of the current surrounds here.
A cool change arrived and the massive fires here move south towards the coast, Nowa Nowa, Lakes Entrance, Burthen etc etc, though it look benign at this time we are expecting hot windy weather on Saturday to fan fires and have no idea what that might bring. Happy New Year

epirb: In a lot of places they are not allowed to cut the trees down , elevation be a bit of trouble for canals long before finding the water to put in them. Farmers have been stopped doing burn offs and the greenies don't like cattle grazing out alot of the rough land so it burns till Aussies relearn vegetation control . Same mistakes are being made this side of the Tasman .
Still most people were able to leave the area with all their belongings before the fire reaches their houses. And stuff they can't take, I guess they are insured. How many of the 17 death persons were avoidable? How many people who lost everything could have saved more stuff?
If you know the fire is about 1 week from your house, start packing and leave, maybe you can even drive 2-3 times to collect more stuff from your house.

You go girl LOL I would have loved to see your comments that the mods deleted. Could you possibly have been critical of that twit vacaying at a resort while his country is going up in flames?

It's funny the 'experts' on wildfires here are those who live in soggy bottoms. Their greatest danger from fire is burning their nose lighting up a hash pipe, I think.

See that post #12 of Larrys ? thats just what parts of my place look like autumn-- middle of winter . Done then when the grass won't carry a fire and its a given that the land is going to get wetter , wet enough to put out any underground fires . We have three fire levels , open season , restricted , and closed . The media are pushing the fires as a way to embarass their PM as he does not support man made climate change . Any body saying they have lost all need to be looked at a bit closer . I don't doubt it happens as fire get a wriggle on but not the usual unless they are cut off .

I guess it's time I said something ... Firefighters saved my home in 2013, 2 of my neighbors, and almost everybody north of me lost everything.
People in Australia... This is so sad for me to watch, it brings back memories of 2013. The Black Forest fire started 2 miles east, and a few blocks north of me... on that day, the temps were around 90f, maybe higher, and the humidity was less than 10%, and, the wind was blowing steady between 30-40 MPH ... A recipe for disaster... I was in town when the fire started, I couldn't get back to my home, all I could do was watch on tv from my parents house in town. I really hope... you get rain, and cooler temps very soon... sad flower

Here's some things from my fire, the firefighters dug a trench all the way from the road, to the back of my deck, and used water like in the video...

That's correct.

Within minutes of calling the mods' attention to a certain member's bigoted remarks which were purely intended to incite hatred for the people in this country, his comments were removed.

Brilliant work.
