I never met Dixie but if you loved her like your cats then she was special..........

Marti, know that your Dixie is still actually with you......... animals souls return to nature .... they are in another dimension that we can not see.
I remember a friend who once "saw" her family pet, who had obviously come to say goodbye to her, and she did not know it have died.
Sometimes you will see your family pet look up and seem to be seeing something you cannot see .... this ... "they" say, is that other dimension that animals live in - far superior to our visual one.......? .. The way that animals seem to know when a disaster is approaching, or sense somehow when something serious is affecting one .....?

Hi Marty. I am very, very sorry for Your loss. I have dogs for forty years and each of them was a part of my family. So I know how You fill now.
Your Dixie was 13 years old. She was happy to live so long and happy to live in such good company as You and Your daughters were. Very, very lucky dog.
The best thing You can do now is to find one puppy and give him a name: Dixie.

sad to hear of your loss. i think what smoky says is wonderful,we have all seen our animals looking at something we cant see
