Pine scented smoke hangs in winter inversion Every bough bows low with whitened sparkle And the sun cleans frost from morning panes Cups of warmth begin to clink to tabletops Everyone rustles slowly under snug covers
Only one has risen to prepare for the rest Now the oven emits scents for hunger pangs
Each slowly garbs for the annual gathering As the household realizes the rituals arrival Ready to give and receive the members Tiptoe to hearth beside a decorated tree Handing ribboned gratitude to each other

Perhaps the smoke will clear from the debris Eventually the trucks will come heavy-laden And dump the unwanted refuse of society Cascading onto the ground for the wretched Elves of the dump to pick through for scraps
Of course many will be here to jostle about Never finding enough to sell for a few coins
Each will recycle what can be found and sold And humbly ask for food for hungry children Rarely do they go to sleep with full bellies To dream of a place where they can grow up Happy to believe in a god that loves all
III.
Perchance all people will come to realize Everyone needs to strive to equalize And sing a song both strong and gentle Caring for strangers as Samaritan showed Each has special gifts to be bestowed
Only when our hearts shine with love Neighbor cares for neighbor, patient of
Everyone’s strengths and weaknesses prone And welcome all, as one of our own Realization that parents love every child The mother celebrates everyone’s birth Happy, father witnesses our peace on earth
Peace on Earth is a powerful message, Agoodguy, delivered skilfully and in an acrostic style most unusual. I would never have guessed.Thank you for your instructive poetry. Thinking about trying myself in it.
Hi, agoodguy2have, While the sun cleans frost from morning panes, your P.o.E.m clears the vision to what's important in life. May the poet's words ring out until it can be said by everyone, "The mother celebrates everyone’s birth Happy, father witnesses our peace on earth."

Hi Good Guy
I missed this over the festive period. Great series of acrostics and an unusual mix of free verse and rhyme. But hey! You have pulled it off - this really works. The content is very thought provoking too.
