Legend of Mara (Part XLV)

One minute they were there in Hamburg, next they were gone. Lifted through the sky far out onto the sea. Everyone including Mara were in a state of shock. It was one thing knowing that something had to move the Kra but it was another matter to actually be in it and be a part of this. Slowly people shrugged off their shock. At first it was only a couple that were talking but it was not long and everyone was involved.

Where were they heading and how long would it take? It was these sort of questions they were discussing amongst themselves. Some headed up on top to look around if they could see anything. Nothing but water as far as the eye could see. For all they knew they could be the only ones left in the world. It was a very sobering thought which led to the question as to what happened to Hamburg.

There were gentle swells that rocked the Kra ever so gentle. The sun was streaming down heating everything to an almost unbearable level. None of the villagers were used to such heat or such bright skies. Not a single cloud could be seen in the sky. Even the swells had stopped and the sea was like glass. There was not a single breath of wind. Everything was totally still. It was like being on dry land.

Things still had to be done but it was such a chore. The animals had to be fed and the stalls cleaned out. Food had to be prepared for the meal that night. Due to the heat Bier rations were given out. That seemed to lift peoples spirits and they went about their chores more cheerful. Some even started singing with others joining in. Soon the whole Kra reverberated with the sound of singing. Even Mara and Hulderic joined in.

No-one had noticed the sky turn dark until the sound of thunder. Shocked people went outside and looked to the sky. What they saw frightened them. Massive dark clouds were rolling across the sky like a herd of angry buffalo. Here and there the sky was rent by lightning. The sea was becoming stirred up and the Kra increasingly rocked from a gentle rock to a more savage movement. Rougher and rougher the sea became.

The waves towered over the Kra. The poor villagers were struck down by fear. Suddenly a gigantic wave came and lifted the Kra high into the sky before plunging it deep into the waves. It seemed that it was so deep that they must reach the ocean bottom soon.
