lonesome highway

I left her standing, at the side
I guess she'll always wonder why
standing at the side
then she broke down and cried
as I rode away, I clearly heard her say

'go ahead and break my heart
I should have known it from the start
take my heart away
you'll be back one day
but the moment's passed for you and me today
you threw our love away'

I shrugged it off and I kept going
further down the highway
but there was something, eating at me
what it was, I cannot say
as I traveled down that road so far away

I started crying to myself
had put her love up on the shelf
no one else to blame
what caused my awful shame
drove our love down a road of no return
why can't I ever learn?

Hi, hedistuff,
Like "Groundhog Day", we often have to relive a situation until we learn whatever its lesson. At least, we get to try again! Thanks for sharing the lonesome highway .
