Summer Rains

Softly falls the summer rain
In the middle of the night
I lay awake and listen as it drops
Falling off the porch roof
Landing everywhere
Soaking into the parched earth

Far away a lonely call is heard
The feint whistle of a passing train
Everything else is silent
Taking a break from the buzz
The world is asleep
Even the barking dog

Alone without moon or stars
Darkest of the summer nights
A soft warm breeze will blow
In through the open window
Fresh and clean as life
Linens are hung

Flight of a wandering mind
Rising above the clouds or rain
A dream walker that leaves
Its tired and weary bones
Listen to the rain falling
Mystifying my thoughts

So true these feelings come to us as rain pours to cleanse our minds. Nicely penned Yankee. SMwave

Thanks SM....... Being a child of the seventies......I can remember listening to such rain-themed mood songs by Leon Russell.......singing his "Manhattan Island Serenade" .. 'Sitting on a highway in a broken van'......." cool
