effects of aging
"Love is a decision, it is a judgement, it is a promise. If love were only a feeling, there would be no basis for the promise to love each other forever. A feeling comes and it may go. How can I judge that it will stay forever, when my act does not involve judgement and decision." - Erich Fromm - (The Art of Loving) “But let there be spaces in your togetherness. And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. And stand together yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.” Kahlil Gibran – (The Prophet)
Somebody has to write one!
Pondering on the old and the new. Best wishes to all !
So sorry I was to see your pain, Now things can’t be the same again, So sorry was I to hear the news, Fate is chosen, you do not choose. So sorry to hear, a betting man will lose, Men are betting, by praying in his pews, So sorry to hear, if pr

This is a tribute to Malala, recent recipient of a Nobel Prize.
Aloneness is different from loneliness It is an occasion for personal growth It gives an insight into humanness And helps us realize our self worth Being with others continually Denies us from ever having a chance To look at ourselves objecti
I made some adjustments to my previous piece, "The Sound Of Silence". This piece, "The Power Of Silence", allows a fuller treatment of Silence. Thanks to those who commented on "The Sounds of Silence".
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all CS folks! Please remember the Children!
(for students)
As a child, growing up, most of the poems I learned at school were of the traditional type. Memorizing and reciting them, which I enjoyed, were part of the learning exercise. Free verse, a modern form of poetry, was a new experience for me. Over the years, I jotted down some of my thoughts on things, especially, on Nature topics. I always considered such writings to be prose. It was only after I learned of free verse, that I saw that they could also be viewed as poetry with a slight variation in the line layout to create a sense of metre. I referred to such writing as poetic prose and labelled some of my earlier poems as such.
My Special Haven
Loving and being loved in return is a priceless treasure which gives meaning to human existence. There are many kinds of Love - a man for his God a man for his woman a friend for his friend a person for his kin a man for his pet animal - these and many more quatrain (abab rhyme scheme) iambic pentameter (10 syllables per line)

I tried to put myself in the position of a jaded lover and wrote this piece. I think there are persons here to whom it may apply. It does not apply to myself directly. (Iambic Tetrameter)
Sweet Dreams! (iambic tetrameter)
The Great Kiskadee (Pitangus Sulpharatus) is indigenous to Central and South America, the Caribbean and Southern Texas. I have added two more videos. One actually shows a kiskadee in action singing his song. The other gives an audio of one kiskadee calling and another kiskadee answering.
Trinidad, my native island, is sometimes referred to as the “Land of the Hummingbird” because more than sixteen different species of hummingbird have been recorded on the island. The indigenous Native Americans, the Arawaks, named the island, "Iere", which, in their language, means "Land of the Hummingbird". Two hummingbirds are shown on the island's coat of arms.
Dedicated to Cat Lovers everywhere, including my dear friend Travis.

“Strange, is it not? that of the myriads who Before us pass'd the door of Darkness through, Not one returns to tell us of the Road, Which to discover we must travel too.” (Omar Khayyam – The Rubaiyat, verse 46) Omar Khayyam was a Persian mathematician, astronomer, and poet. He was born on May 18, 1048 and died on December 4, 1131. The verse of his poem quoted was written more than nine centuries ago. The message of his poem still holds today. My poem, “The Other Side”, is in line with the quoted verse from Khayyam's poem and is not meant to disparage the religious beliefs of anyone.
Childhood memories of Little Black Sambo and the tigers, anyone else read that stuff before it was deemed inappropriate? I liked it, never really clicked it was about an Indian child..

(iambic pentameter) The vulture indigenous to my native Trinidad is the Black Vulture which is called "The Corbeau". As the poem says, they are very unsightly looking but once airborne, they become marvellous flying and gliding machines, and are delightful to view as they ride the air currents so effortlessly way up in the sky.
