Cats

Cats are furry
Which are always in a hurry
They have good eyesight
Even in the dark light
Cats are quick to see
Like a bumblebee
Cats can land on their feet
Which is hard to beat

The Dog

The dog had run down the street.
The dog got tired from the heat.
He found a tree and took a seat,
and chowed upon a bone to eat.

The ASPCA

Well I have one shot left.
I'm bound to be saved now
It's got to work out
It just has to.

The doors open
Time to do or die

Mommy mommy mommy!
I want a kitty!
Ouch, no chance there.

Oh honey, let's get a dog.
Ah here we go.
Not this one
It's misshapen
and is that a bitemark in its ear?
That would give my Lola nightmares.
Love ya too, judgmental b*tch

Hmm let's check out their canine selection
This one looks like it hasn't seen love in a long time
Sad eyes
couple fight scars
underfed, unclean
Let's see what else they have here
Don't forget me, dude!

So, this is the pound.
WOA, look at that mutt I beg your pardon!
He looks so freaky!
Sorry buddy
Darwin takes over now!
thanks for stating the obvious douchebag.

Yea! Yea that's right!
Just walk on through you posers
you window shoppers
You're wasting my time
getting my hopes up when you never
intended to make a commitment.
I'd have bitten your shins for that.

Oh no
It's been forever
and no one else is coming.
Hey! Hey!
People!
We're OPEN!
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
SAVE ME!

Oh crap
No
no
don't take me now
There's more people coming!
I'm sure of it!
Give me some more time!
I'm healthy! I'm clean!
NO
LET ME GO!!
PLEASE ANYTHING BUT THIS!

HELLO?!
SOMEONE PLEASE COME SAVE ME!
HURRY!!
WHERE ARE YOU?!
Buddy, Spike, go get help!
Oh NO

Stop please
you've got the wrong dog!
I don't belong here!
There's gonna be a real sad kid if you do this now, mister!
HEY! Don't Shut that door!
I'm talking to you!
HEY!HEY!HEY!!!

LET ME OUt
NOW, COME on
I HAVE JUST AS MUCH Time
AS THE OTHER dogs
Come on
LEt me out
I'M A GOod boy
please

let me out

help me

someone's coming for me

About this poem:
If I could format it more specifically, the lines towards the end would actually get smaller in size. But otherwise, it's a good poem, with a unique perspective. Also, for a treat, count the number of captial letters in the final stanza per line.

Arf arf!

Good morning!
I waited all night for you!
Aren't you proud of me?
Don't you love me?

Woops, I'll get out of your way.
I'll wait for you
Yay! You came back!
Don't you love me?

Um, ok, have to wait some more.
You're a little bit busy, i can tell.
Isn't that very perceptive of me?
You must love me.

Yay! Breakfast!
Mmmm, bacon and ham!
Yay! Table scraps!
Don't you love me?

Ok, you're spending time wtih your bookbag
and the fun papers.
I'm a little bit bored
But I know you love me more.

We're all alone in the house.
isn't this great?
Where are you?
Do you still love me?

Hey! What are you doing out there?
Where are you going?
Are you coming back?
Do you love me?

I miss you soo much.
My world has no meaning without you.
I have been forgotten.
You do love me, right?

All I can do is sit on the couch
run around
and eat.
Did you ever love me?

It's been an eternity
the doorknob rattles.
Is it you?
You really do love me!

Who are you?
I've never seen you before.
WHO ARE YOU?!
I don't love you.

Ow, my neck.
Hey, get me out of here!
You mean masked man!
I'll never love you!

Let me OUT!!
I miss my couch
my house
my love.

Hey, this bag feels heavier.
Why have we stopped moving?
Where are we?
Will I ever see my love again?

Hey! Don't swing me like that!
Stop it!
Aaah! Why'd you let me go?!
You never loved me!

Umm, I'm still in here!
It's getting really wet!
Thisn isn't any kind of swimming I've done before.
What kind of love is this?

Who's driving away?
There's too much water in here!
I can't breathe!!
I love you.

About this poem:
Along the same lines as THE ASPCA poem, but in a different, more intimate setting. The dog is an allegory for naivete.

Pitter Patter

Pitter-patter, pitter-patter
Hoppity-hop, ears go flop!
Silky fur, whizzing like a blur
Beady dark eyes, stocky thighs

Pitter-patter, pitter-patter
Snow-white coat, splashed with color
Browns fading, beige shading
Mocha ears, chocolate smears

Pitter-patter, pitter-patter
Twitching nose, furry, little toes
Long, back feet, somehow discrete
Tiny, round tail, body so frail

Pitter-patter, pitter-patter
Nibbling away without a single delay
Simple ways, curiosity ablaze
Small front paws, cute without flaws

Pitter-patter, pitter-patter…

About this poem:
This is just a cute lil poem I wrote about one of my rabbits. I don't usually write "happy" poems, so I figured I'd challenge myself to actually write a happy one. (:

lemming

lemmings go to their end
nose to butt
run by millions
to end life's rut

see not themselves
but just run ahead
and over the cliff
to rocks of dread

beware the path
that we all follow
does not lead to
a truth rung hollow

to think the one before
knows the greatest way
may be a bad mistake
leading to lasting dismay

Night Fight

'Twas in the darkened shadows,
Which were blacker than the night,
I heard the sounds of howling strong,
Two felines in a fight.

A neighbor from a window shouting.
"That's enough, go home!"
A quiet came upon the night,
And never did I roam.

But 'twas only a few minutes past,
The brawl began again,
And in the eyesight of my mind,
I wondered who would win.

A whine, a howl, a howl a whine,
Went ripping through the air.
'Twas not 'til morning would I know,
Just how the two would fair.

I thought I'd see in early light,
The victor or his foe,
But if 'twas not for the night before.
No signs were left to know.

About this poem:
I was just thinking about some things that we hear in the night. How in the morning, if we had slept through it all, often times we would never even know it happened at all.

Afternoon in May

Haunting the grass
a butterfly
alights
upon its
rain-bent blades.

Daisies bathe its
tawny wings
in shadow.

Seconds pass.
Then
up and
away it flies,
freckling through the
haze. A

blackbird's voice,
flute-soft, clear,
accompanies its
breeze-borne flight to

other grass blades

and

other flowers.

She

combs the sun's beams through her locks
dapples moonshine on her cheeks
sets brilliant stars upon her wrists
and stings her neck and arms with

musk and, bloodying her lips with gloss,
she steps from her apartment
strutting through the streets on clouds
alluring with coy glances

Saying Goodbye

Into my home I brought you.
It's been a decade hence.
I knew that we were family
And we've been together since.
Together we grew older,
You before your time.
Your journey so much bolder
And much more fleet than mine.
You've always waited there for me
To greet me at the door.
But now your eyes can barely see
And moving at all is a painful chore.
My heart is truly breaking
So great will be the pain.
And this decision that I'm making
Is one that chills like winter rain.
One last time I'll stroke your ears
And tell you nothing's wrong.
And tonight my eyes will flood with tears
That your life so short and mine so long.
