DAD

When the time came for me to
enter this world it was
your hands that were the
first to welcome me in

Over the year's it may
seem like we have drifted
apart from one another
but I know that our bond
still remains

Though it sadden's me that
I did not get to meet my grampa
I find relief in knowing
he live's on in not only
you but in me as well

There were never really many
words spoken between you and
me in the past but your love
for me was always presant

You have shown me so many
amazing things in life that
I will forever cherish and
never will forget

I thank you dad for being
there for me and giving
me the life that only
dreams are made of

DADDY

In morning light
I wake with tears.
The days they pass
they turn to years.
The cruelty of life is true
Time never stops for
the mourner's sake
it only marches on and
take take take.
On the border of insanity
how much more can i take?
I am told that time heals all wounds
yet i am plagued by painful sorrow
each day is worse then the tomorrow.
How could i miss you anymore
then i do today i will
always miss each and every way
I am filled with so much sorrow
I will miss you more tomorrow.

Memory lane…

As I enter the afternoon of life,
I often pause to pay tribute to and to relish special memories…

Kayaking on a gentle African river with my 3-year old daughter,
Reliving the wonder, and awe in her eyes,
Reliving her keen sense of alertness and adventure lighting up her innocent angelic face…
Memories…

Reliving my ten-year old daughter’s first contact lenses,
Witnessing her intent fervency in the eye specialist’s waiting room,
An eager smile dancing on her lips,
A new adventure is about to begin,
And endless love just pouring out of my heart for my little girl…
Memories…

Feeding pigeons in London with my beautiful young wife and only four daughters at the time, two more were destined, two strapped to my wrists and two strapped to hers,
Magical moments, shared intimately with the one you love and with the unfathomably delightful fruits of our love, four round faces, this time up in arms at the indignity of being leashed to parents’ wrists,
But the pigeons slowly thaw the ice and heavy little hearts are soon cavorting around doing air-acrobatics with feathered friends…
Memories…

Collecting sunflowers on a soft Sunday afternoon in a rural African town with the woman soon to be my bride, marveling still that I heard the enchanting ‘yes’ to my question, thus sparing me from petrification of heart,
Proudly watching her lithesome body and nimble fingers plucking sunflowers, dozens and dozens of them, they were splashed everywhere that Tuesday at our wedding, in celebration of the joint life we were about to begin, with their big, open, yellow smiles…
Wow! What a wonderful woman she was,
I still love her deeply, as she smiles at us from her new home, in a dimension unknown to us, but no less real,
Her smiling face renewed again and full of twinkle, as if to say to the cruel cancer that prematurely took her from us:-
“… you did not destroy, you merely raised our consciousness…”
I love you, my heartthrob,
And I miss you soo…
Memories…

Reflections

I am reflecting back on my life.
Yet what reflection do i see?
Who is looking back at me?
Child careful not to upset anyone.
Adult who is used to being abused.
Content wife walking God's path.
The widow walking in faith.
I never know which one.
Will make an appearance into the day.
Which one wants an appearance.
Can i just always see the real me
looking back at me.

The Circle

Its true what they say
About the circle of life
Being disrespectful
An getting into strife
Those were my days
As young as they were
Moments in time
For them to reoccur
Through the eyes
Of my boy
An his spirit an will
I'm learning life lessons
Often an still
Every rejection
Be what it may
Is a yard once measured
By the words i did say

OVERMELT

If the only true mercy ever shown
to Man by the fates is
Woman
isn’t her “Otherness”
vital?

Or are our offspring to be
an amalgam of a sort of Me and
Me?
rather than
We?

Must she become another mere He
a dwarfed duplicate of
masculinity?
Can she not
be left free?

WHY WONT WE LISTEN

'Why Wont We Listen' to advice that assures you avoid a imminent mistake
or accept 'careless decisions' are choices we repeatedly choose to make
"They have got to learn for themselves" is Pretzel logic the ignorant convey
expressing your unsolicited Two Cents more likely provokes them to disobey

You guarantee outcomes but in their world parental input doesn't belong
no matter how many times you're proven right defiance stands strong
The dismissal of every plea most always turns into us paying the price
fact is their kids too shall one day disregard their every piece of advice

Refrain from saying "Don't drink and Drive" so they can learn first hand
'they gotta live their life' doesn't equate to cease helping our kids understand
Suggesting "Just Say No" will keep them from figuring it out on their own
"If Only I'd Listened" was recognized prior to consequences we made known

Kids have become more reckless than ever without any thought to fallout
their mental cognizance has parted ways with reality without any doubt
Adults just like our children are prone to blindly turning the other cheek
many's refusal to listen is because to them it's just condescending critique

Obviously we're unable to assure they don't learn some things the hard way
parents don't parent children anymore they allow them to dangerously stray
Again 'It's Their Life' but parents can't not step in whenever situations call
mother's and father's should let kids stagger but we shouldn't let them fall

Stage Left

If all the worlds are
"the" stage

When one can put out the truth

drop the cloth

away
from "the" stage

Sincerely

"then" or "thus"

"I am home"

Trainwreck

You said you wanted something that would always be there
Once you had it sight you forgot to care
How can you be so twisted you where aware
You needed truth but took the dare
Walked into the devils lair
Played with fire and forgot to beware
Spark the flame heat it up
Draw it back and take up the slack
Stick in in fade to black
To late now can't take it back
When your numb can't feel the pain
All you feel is the sound of the train
You take it straight to your brain
Goodbye sanity hello insane

Oh no here ya go your on the hunt once again
You can hear the train comin ya pack your bags with sin
One more trip your running from the pain
Pull it back stick it in your vein
Your bags are packed board the train

Words are important

Words are important
They roll off our tongue
Words are shared by you
And every one

Words show who we are
So tell no lies
To your wives
Men

Words are important
Women enjoy
I love you words
Or a little gossip
I have heard

Words are important
With children as well
They want to be told good job
Or in fight, a few cuss words may come out
If mom not there to hear
They just might

Words in the business world
After you both have spoken
It end in a hand shake
And you walk away in hopes
With a deal in the make

Words are important
With the elderly too
They want to be talk to with respect
And not have to say
Child I am your mama
As they grab you around the neck

Words are important
To men as well
Sometimes it the men
Who say the least but just
Use there eyes to tell
You they love you,
And will you become my bride

Words are important
As they roll off our lips
So be careful what you say
As the preacher say
The world might just end ,,,,,,today
