WE ARE THE CHEROKEE

FROM THE BOOK WALKS ON THE PRAIRIE
BY CHIEF REDELK IRONHORSE THOMAS

Down by the Oconoluftee
amid the wild flowers and rose,
lived the Cherokee people
where the honey suckle grows.
They lived in peace and harmony
where everyone got along,
taught and raised their children
to know right from wrong.
One day great thunder sound
and soldiers tred our land,
blood stained the earth
as we died by their hand.
They killed four thousand innocent children
laid in shallow unmarked graves,
as soldiers came in thousands
with cannons guns and staves.

They put our Holy woman in a
cold wood wagon bed,
left her to cough in her own blood
no blankets for her head.
Next morning for miles
did the word spread,
our people wailed in sorrow
our Holy woman was dead.

On that fateful day in December
our death march ended,
our women and children cried
our Elders on canes bended.
They put us in a place
we neither liked nor knew,
in time we built our homes
as our children grew.
There are now clean white houses
where once cabins stood,
our maidens now cook with gas
where once they cooked with wood.

Our children are at peace again
where the honey suckle grows,
they say for every tear thats shed
blooms a white Cherokee rose.
There have been four thousand changes
for every Cherokee who died,
one for each and every mother
who held their dead childs hand and cried.

We are strong and proud and say to those
who sought our death decree,
we are God's people
WE ARE THE CHEROKEE!

SCARECROWS

Hi I am a scarecrow
I have been here for decades
Standing upright under sun
And without umbrella in heavy rain.

I work hard from dusk to dawn
They made me ugly as possible
So that every one can laugh at me
Then also I just smile at them.

At night I am free to move
As no crows will come to eat the grains
But I stand there in the cold
Guarding the land of my master.

Once I was young and handsome
The best scarecrow ever here been
Now I am old and uglier than ever
And no one looks at me nowadays.

One day I surely will die
My legs are almost eaten up
One day I will fall down
And will become a part of soil.

But I don’t know why
Why,I want to live some more
In this world of crazy humans
Where no one likes me now.

As I told you some time before
Once I was young and handsome
That time crows were scared of me
Now,even they are laughing at me.

THE FAMILY.

A caring love, between family hold
Past to present, meek and bold
Carried memories, times shared
Remembered by those, who care

Family members, were born and died
Today's majority, active and alive
Of new ones joining, in marriage
Some carrying, life's baggage

Compassion and love, within number will
Act as glue, blood and commitment seal
Babies born, happy-sad-forgotten times
Weaving magic, through genetic lines

Reaching-holding, memories past
Ensures precious bonds, of family last
Throughout generations, together hold
Good and bad times, splintered with gold

Genes or nurturing, may control
Outcome of future, blend of souls
We have the choice, our selection
Personal progress, in many directions

About this poem:
A family is to me a growing mixture of those who repeat the activities of their ancestors, whether good or bad....yet the bond woven by memories allows vision and hope to keep moving forward....growing in strength and numbers.

Simple Little Thing Called Family

I'm looking out the window.
Looking at a life that's passing me by.
Wanting to escape from myself.
A place where I want think anymore.
You don't understand why.
You would like to feel like you've even the score.
I can't even cry.
If you would like I'll say you won.
Just leave me and close the door.
I just want to fly high.
Up in the sky and feel the morning sun.
Soar like a bird all so free.
Out the window is where I wish to be.
Seems like someone's always needing something from me.
And I feel I have given all I have to give.
Seems like I have been born in the wrong time and place.
It seems like someone has come a long and erased.
The way that things were meant to be.
Changed all of humanities priorities.
No longer are families close.
Trust is just another word for saying weak.
Don't you see we've made a wrong turn.
I really want the life I seek.
Why do people not just learn?
When it is all said and done.
Family is all you really have.
The one thing most come in this world with.
The one thing most leave behind.
So why can't they find the time to love.
Why must everything be put above?
A simple little thing called family.

Hidden Pride

You've grown tall and filled out some
Earned the stripes worked not won
And now of only twenty three my son
Recognition has become

I wish I could turn back time
Repair a life that wasn't mine
And spend those precious seconds fine
That would be sublime

All I knew was how to work
Roof and food my alert
My priorities had gone beserk
How life can make you a jerk

Distance made our life sour
A relationship bent on respect is dour
I never meant for you to cower
For you were always my finest hour

Days roll by and I never hear
You live a life of no fear
My memories of you are dear
And hold you in my heart near

You carry on as you can
You had a vision part of your plan
It wasn't hard to understand
Time was the greatest demand

The accolades come thick and fast
Respect from peers reward at last
The magic weaved from spell cast
A way to heal the past

But ne'r forget from whence you came
Our blood is thick it is the same
You walk your path to keep you sane
The world your oyster the pearl your gain.......

Come A Summers Day

Gentle touches of the wind
Gentle rain like a friend
Keep telling me I shall return home again

Come a summers day

The valley is winding low
As I walk along I know
Many places have I been
And I need the path that returns home again

Walking by a stream
reflections of the sky
Clouds move slowly by and then
The promise of my heart to mend

Come a summers day

What inspires me

What inspires me April 2012

What inspires me today?
Watching my child kneel and pray.
The warmth of a sunny day.
The critters that come out to play.
Friends that stop by to sit a spell.
The smiles they bring.
The stories they tell.

! Happy Birthday Son !

Through-Out The Years
We Carry On
With Joys & Tears
My First-Born Son

Through Birthdays Past
And Yet To Come
They Go So Fast
By-Setting-Sun->

So Make Them Last
While You Are Young
Now That You Cast
Ones Of Your Own

Birth

To reproduce
involves seduce
Condom misuse
And egg produce
Nine months womb use
Labour induce
To introduce
New life let loose
