Live and Let Live

At any time whatsoever
Whether day or night, night or day
There's always some CS blogger
Who is up with something to say

Some post blogs of their very own
Others merely make a comment
Some just peruse to see what's shown
And with viewing, they are content

CS blogging is taking place
All across the entire globe
With no barrier to creed or race
There is no need for any probe

Among all the differing views
There are times when conflicts arise
Such cases, CS mods diffuse
For bloggers here, that's no surprise

So let's all enjoy the blogging
And to the rules be attentive
In the process of so doing
Remember to live and let live

Tribute To A Vulture

Antithesis of avian beauty
Monstrosity of the bird family
Head and neck very hideous looking
In dull black wrinkled up unfeathered skin

Exposed decaying animal matter
Can produce unhealthy bacteria
That can endanger other life species
Threatening them with illness and disease

Consumption of animal carrion
Is part of your normal food ingestion
Though your appearance may cause revulsion
You fulfil a most essential function

Your motion on land is very clumsy
With those black legs you step so awkwardly
Yet when you take off to the air in flight
Your graceful movement is a pleasant sight

Riding air currents way up in the sky
On motionless wings you go sailing by
While cruising up there at such a great height
You still search for food with your keen eyesight

Though to some, you may appear unsightly
Your role in nature is prized most highly
You are indeed a most worthy creature
I pay tribute to you, noble vulture

About this poem:
(iambic pentameter)

The vulture indigenous to my native Trinidad is the Black Vulture which is called "The Corbeau". As the poem says, they are very unsightly looking but once airborne, they become marvellous flying and gliding machines, and are delightful to view as they ride the air currents so effortlessly way up in the sky.

The Princess and the Knave

I had to look twice, cause I wasn’t sure
Didn’t want her seeing me staring at her
She caught my eye though
And threw me a wave
She played the Princess and I played the knave

We talked for a while in awkward phrases
Tackling topics in gradual stages
She told me she missed me
And I had to be brave
She played the Princess and I played the knave

We dropped into a place where the coffee was strong
I lied when I told her I couldn’t stay long
She said that’s okay
It ain’t you I crave
She played the Princess and I played the knave

She asked if I loved her
So I said I could try
I’d never admit what I cannot deny
But she seemed satisfied with the answer I gave
She played the Princess and I played the knave

We lay on her bed with the moon staring in
Sharing a joint and drinking her gin
The night was so still
And quiet as the grave
She played the Princess and I played the knave

Rainy mid morning woke us both up
The breakfast she made went cold in my cup
I imagined how easily
I could make her my slave
She played the Princess and I played the knave

If I see her again, I think I might hide
Stick my libido in a bag with my pride
Don’t pass no judgement on how I behave
She played the Princess and I played the knave

The Beat Of Life Goes On

Mom got up early and is in the kitchen
Preparing the breakfast for everyone
Dad's still in the bathroom and is shaving
And the beat of life goes on

The kids are busy getting set for school
One is still trying to get homework done
The others are taking things really cool
And the beat of life goes on

Now all sit around the breakfast table
To fuel themselves for the day's action
Each consumes what he or she is able
And the beat of life goes on

Dad leaves the home for his workplace early
Mom patiently checks the kids one by one
To ensure that for school each is ready
And the beat of life goes on

Dad is at work earning his salary
Kids are at school getting education
Mom is at home with some chores she's busy
And the beat of life goes on

It's suppertime now for the family
And it's filled with lively conversation
Each one partakes of the meal heartily
And the beat of life goes on

After supper, mom tidies the kitchen
Then joins the rest watching television
Later, for next day each starts preparing
And the beat of life goes on

The kids get busy with their assignment
Mom and Dad continue to linger on
They chat a bit about now the day went
And the beat of life goes on

Then finally they all head off to bed
For much needed sleep and relaxation
To refresh each for the new day ahead
And the beat of life goes on

Mom got up early and is in the kitchen
Preparing the breakfast for everyone
Dad's still in the bathroom and is shaving
And the beat of life goes on

SUNSHINE

Sunshine, life's primordial sustainer
Channeling to all, the sun's energy
Plant, animal, insect, fish or other
Without sunshine, not one of them would be

Sunshine can uplift your mood and spirit
When you are feeling gloomy and depressed
It can cheer you up to rise above it
And impart a pleasant feeling of zest

Sunshine brightens the colours of flowers
Making them come alive in their glory
It possesses some magical powers
That transforms plainness into beauty

Sunshine on the gently rippling water
Creates a display of sparkling diamonds
Reverberating like silent laughter
That induces blissful joy in response

The Hummingbird

Incredibly fast and yet so tiny
Dressed in feathers that refract the sunlight
Radiating such colourful beauty
Producing a true birdwatcher's delight

Suspending a living feathery mass
Wings beating at eighty times per second
Create a blur which for a short time lasts
Then in an instant later it is gone

Busily sipping each flower's nectar
As you rapidly flit from bloom to bloom
Viewing you in your glorious splendour
Chases away any feelings of gloom

A true master of acrobatic flight
Forward, backward and even upside down
What a marvellous captivating sight
Leaving the viewer speechless and spellbound

All bedecked in luminescent feathers
Blessed with a spectacular flying mode
Radiating such beautiful colours
That is the magic of the hummingbird

About this poem:
Trinidad, my native island, is sometimes referred to as the “Land of the Hummingbird” because more than sixteen different species of hummingbird have been recorded on the island.
The indigenous Native Americans, the Arawaks, named the island, "Iere", which, in their language, means "Land of the Hummingbird".
Two hummingbirds are shown on the island's coat of arms.

Don't Worry, Be Happy

I am a fearless Kiskadee
Sitting on a branch of this tree
Singing my theme song happily
With a Kis Ka Dee Kis Ka Dee

I sing my song very sweetly
Seeking to make others happy
Filling them with ecstasy
With its rhythm and melody

My message is not to worry
Despite how things in life may be
Don't let them make you feel crazy
At all times, strive to be happy

One can state things that are likely
But no one knows what things will be
So keep your chin up cheerfully
And sing Kis Ka Dee Kis Ka Dee.

About this poem:
The Great Kiskadee (Pitangus Sulpharatus) is indigenous to Central and South America, the Caribbean and Southern Texas.

I have added two more videos.
One actually shows a kiskadee in action singing his song.
The other gives an audio of one kiskadee calling and another kiskadee answering.

Nature's Lullaby

Gazing upward into the night
The stars are twinkling in the sky
Painting a very peaceful sight
As time goes slowly drifting by

The moon is quietly glowing
Amid the darkened clouds around
Her soft light is most comforting
Gently bathing things on the ground

The night air is cool and soothing
Like a balm to a weary soul
I feel it as I am breathing
Calming me and making me whole

Now I feel a quiet delight
After gazing at the night sky
I shall sleep peacefully tonight
Caressed by Nature's Lullaby

Lament of a Jaded Lover

To love or not to love again
That is the real question for me
I've already suffered much pain
And my heart is in agony

It's nice to be in love they say
The experience is pure bliss
But if your lover goes away
How does someone deal with this?

The second time, love is sweeter
That is something also stated
Who knows what will happen later
At present I am quite jaded

I shall move on despite the strain
And whatever will be, will be
Will I ever find love again?
That's in the hands of destiny

About this poem:
I tried to put myself in the position of a jaded lover and wrote this piece.
I think there are persons here to whom it may apply.
It does not apply to myself directly.

Dogs and Cats

After working hard on the job all day
Feeling worn out, tired and very stressed
It's nice coming home and seeing your dog
Tail wagging, smiling, happy, full of zest

Dogs are faithful and also man's best friends
They usually seek their owner's protection
If they sense danger or threatening action
Their bark can create quite a commotion

Cats are very lovable animals
Their presence can be good therapy too
Caressing them and hearing their purring
Can also be quite comforting to you

Cats can be seen licking their coats quite clean
They have an aversion to filthiness
Snuggling close to you on the couch or bed
You need not fuss about their tidiness

Dogs and cats are the favourite household pets
They enrich our lives with company
All they ask of us is food and water
In return, they make us very happy
