You're asking three different questions
Would I give my life to a stranger Am I self-centered Do I have morals

what is so moral about self-immolation? What makes the Life of a Stranger more valuable than mine? Yes,I would try save a Stranger, but NOT at the price of my Own Life!
Wouldn't most of us simply react, rather than think this through?
If we saw a child drowning, a person trapped in a sinking car, any number if situations...wouldn't we simply jump in and move as quickly as possible to help that person rather than thinking, "Gee, will this place my life in peril?"
Probably not if I knew for certain that I was going to die.
But it would depend. I wouldn't stand and watch a pre-school burn down and do nothing about the tortured screams emanating from the blaze, even if this meant placing myself at risk.
And when I was 17, I broke my leg because a child was playing in the road with a car speeding towards her, but unfortunately when I dove in I couldn't get my left leg out of the way in time. But the idea of not diving in never crosses your mind for a second, concern for yourself doesn't come into it in situations like this. You are nothing but instinct and adrenaline.

Good heavens, do we actually agree on something Rumples?
I did, twice, and i feel no glory for this, its been normal human acts. in the fire of the action you don't think about your own life, just focuse on what has to be done in the minute.

Exactly what I was thinking!
Lets go for all three! I wouldn't consider myself as self-centred, I have no qualms about my morals, and finally, no I wouldn't give up my life for a stranger. My kids would never forgive me!

Your question is somewhat confused I think.
But to answer as best I can, no I would not sacrifice my life to save a stranger unless it was a child, I've had 34 years of life and most of them have been good so it wouldn't be a big deal to die knowing my death gave some wee kid the same opportunity to experience the happy times I've had in my life.
A lot of people have said they would not give their lives to save a stranger but at the end of the day it depends on the circumstances.
If you were to give those that said no the choice between watching a toddler they don't know being mowed down by a truck or getting splattered pushing the kid out of the way....most people would say yes.
It depends on the circumstance and not one of us who have responded to the question will ever know the true answer until we are faced with the situation :)

Out of all the responders to this poll, you were the only one who got where I was going with it. The most logical answer to my question is the last option of the three. Nobody can truly be sure of how they would react to a situation until they face it. Congratulations, you`re the only one who got it.

If someone was in need of my help or dying before my eyes, I wouldn't think twice about doing whatever it took to save a stranger's life. How could I just stand by and watch someone die?

Don't you mean he's the only one who got what you are thinking.

It's a difficult and most disturbing thing to go through, but you would if it meant almost certain death for you, especially if meant two fatalities instead of one.

You also do not need to risk your life to save some stranger’s life.
A few months back I went to the cinema with my daughter and there were very few people, so I did think this is going to be a good film and it was.
But after some minutes the movie had started some one in the back was making funny noises, my daughter did notice it and said “someone is chocking” myself I did run to the place of that person (she was an elder lady with 2 other friends one female and one male) and the man was trying to give her the Heimlich maneuver although not with the right intensity. I did ask him, do you know how to do it? He said kind of, I said to him move away and I did the maneuver. The lady got the food out and she could breath.
My daughter had run to the principal door looking for help and she did call an ambulance. When everything was under control (in a few minutes) we did continue watching the movie.
At the end of the movie the lady choking kept giving thanks I did say it was nothing but when I was in my car my legs were trembling. My daughter asked me: What if you could not have gotten the food out of her?
My answer was: I was sure I could do it but in case I did not I was going to place her down and give her mouth to mouth respiration (to keep her brain oxygenated) and wait for the paramedics.
I did learn CPR many years ago when my children were little. It would be good for people to learn it.
If I were in any other situation and I could save anyone’s life I would not doubt to do it.
However, I would restrain myself had the situation being for someone drowning and I would follow the protocol but I would not go into the water unless they are my children but my children are much better swimmers than I am.
montemonte: That's your opinion that it's logical. Are you related to Spock?
He`s a distant cousin on my Father`s side. He was also my favorite character on Star Trek.Never cared much for Sulu, found him to be a little arrogant when you talked to him.William Shatner(Captain Kirk) is a pretty interesting and intelligent man.
