galrads: go read what I said. I asked if the Church of England includes muslims.

Your exact words were "Curious, is the royal family in England still in charge of the Church of England and does the Church of England include Muslims?"

How would a Christian church include Muslims. Most stupid question I have ever seen in my life!laugh

Ken_19: Zimmerman's nose had been broken and the back of his head was split open (lacerated) in several places from Martin slamming Zimmerman's head against the concrete curb over and over until Zimmerman finally defended himself.

Nobody is saying there wasn't a fight. We are saying there is no proof but the killers words that he didn't start the fight!doh

So because there is conflicting evidence on who started the physical altercation you have to look at what was happening before that!

Was Zimmerman not worried that Martin was "getting away". He said something similar to police. Was he not the one following the guy? So it was his actions that led to the fight and shooting. So he is culpable.

What are you talking about.

We observed the neighborhood and if we saw anything criminal happen we called the police. We didn't carry weapons in order to shoot someone like Zimmerman.

We would listen to a recording if the Watch commander had anything that we could pass on to the other neighbors in the group.

sofarsogood74: Isn't it neighbourhood watches job to observe and then call the Police? Not to carry around a gun thinking they are Dirty Harry and confronting every black guy who walks past.

And the Kid was 5ft 8in and 200lbs. The fact you feel the need to lie about his weight and height tells me all I need to know!

What I cant understand is all the people who think Zimmerman innocent are treating the Trayvon like he was a criminal. Like he was up to no good and Zimmerman had the right to follow and confront him. The guy was walking home after buying sweets and a soft drink, minding his own business and some John Wayne wannabe shot him!

The sanford police report had TM at 160 pounds,,,, Wikipedia has him at 158 pounds and 5' 11" at the time of his death

sofarsogood74: Knowing all this and the fact Zimmerman then shot the man dead they jury lets him walk. That is saying he is completely blameless. He has not 1% blame in what happened that day. The blame was all the victims who was walking home minding his own business when a stranger started to follow him!

That for me is mind boggling and sends out a message to any dirty harry waanabe on a neighbourhood watch that it is open season on anyone!

Let me unboggle your mind, then.

A jury not convicting for the charges laid against him is not the same as saying he's has not 1% blame in what happened that day.

If a jury is presented with information and charges, they have to believe 'beyond reasonable doubt' that the information positively fits the criteria of the charges in order to conclude a guilty verdict.

In this case, this did not happen. I suspect given the information presented and the charges filed that was absolutely the right and legal conclusion to come to.

The questions now are, was all the information presented that could have been, were the appropriate charges leveled against Zimmerman and what action should be taken next?

I know everything you say. But having followed the case closely I know the Jury had the power and choice to convict him of a lesser charge of 2nd degree murder. They did not do that either. So that in itself makes me think the jury put all the blame on the victim.dunno

whatever the jury determined now they have a problem:

Isnot a minority of black people protesters. they are caucasians, asians, latins, europeans protesting in this case.
It is easy to judge until you close your eyes and is your kid who is in front of a volatil adult.

TheresMyFriend: George Zimmerman is found "Not Guilty", by a jury trial.
What do you think?
~JOHN~

"Interesting that Zimmerman's attorney & family are no longer being smug about the not guilty verdict. In the court of public opinion, they, now know, that all across the nation and worldwide many see what happened in that courtroom as a miscarriage of justice.
The entire famly will be looking over their shoulder, GZ should have thought out his process better. Anyone who thinks they can take the life of a child in such a horrible way as he did, or period, is not sane if they think the public will just take the bad verdict as vindication for such an act of inhumanity. Everyone defending him seems to live in a dream world.
Nobody wants loose canon GZ in their neighborhood anywhere near their children. Everyone that lives in a neighborhood will be on the lookout for him, his wife, brother, father, and mother knowing he could be nearby. He is currently one of the most disliked men in the world."

Anyway as I said before, the jury had the power and opportunity to find Zimmerman guilty of a lesser charge but they failed to do that also.

I can't remember which link it came from now, but if my memory serves me correctly, Zimmerman's neighbourhood watch colleague was interviewed and within that interview it was stated that 16 burglaries had recently taken place in the area, all committed by young black men.

I would question the wisdom of relaying this information to untrained 'officials' and would suggest it may have fed a racially prejudiced element in this case.

If this is true, then maybe its not just Zimmerman who has a case to answer.

I believe he was one of these people that wanted to feel big and tough when in reality, according to what others have said,he was pathetic at marshal arts, and a bully as a bouncer.
Joining the nieghbourhood watch was another attempt at feeling important.
For someone of that mentality to have a gun is and has proved to be dangerous.
I dont believe he was attacked by the young lad,i believe he instigated it,and i am sure if it had been investigated properly, that would come to light.
Evidence from anyone, including the call operator, his friend on the mobile has been ignored. How convinient.

Another fact people are getting wrong is this neighbourhood watch. Zimmerman was a member of his local NW. But he wasn't on patrol at the time. He was running an errand when he seen Treyvon. I think he was going to the launderette or something. So he was running an errand with a gun tucked in his pants!doh

If it wasn't Treyvon it would have been somebody else some other day. And then he walks!sigh

Thats right.I am not talking about the right to carry a gun, thats the law in America, and i respect there laws.
I am talking about the senseless killing of another person, who up until the point of the confrontation was doing nothing but walking home, being followed by an adult. What 17yr old wouldnt be frightened being followed by an adult stranger?
I believe Zimmerman is guilty.

Second degree murder, manslaughter, or something else?

In British law,he would have been charged with murder, and the case would have been based on the forensic evidence gathered.
However, due to the fact that there are no independant witnesses,he would have proberly be found guilty of manslaughter.
What concerns me is the lack of forensic evidence collected. In this modern day and age, with the skills and techniques available, this case could have been proven one way or the other.I feel the police and forensic officers have not really done there job.wine

I totally agree. I find it strange that the jury completely ignored the evidence of the person who was talking to Treyvon at the time. And they ignored the evidence of the recordings at the time. It's like the word of the killer out trumped these really damning aspects of the case.

In British law,to be guilty of murder, intent to kill or cause grevious bodily harm must be proved(attempt murder),nothing less.
However,as in these circumstances,it is very difflecult to prove Zimmerman had that intent, when he followed the boy,or indeed when they confronted eachother.
Hence,we would have laid the indictment of manslaughter along with the charge of murder,as manslaughter would be easier to prove.cheers

And my understanding after reading about the case and watching the news is the jury could have found Zimmerman guilty of a manslaughter charge or whatever degree of murder is similar. But they choose to let him walk.

It is very disturbing to say the least. Everything in the case points to Zimmerman being a wannabe Dirty Harry and he walks.doh

Oh goody, my quote thingy is working again.

If Zimmerman had been convicted, presumably he could have appealed.

What would be worse for the authorities if they have been negligent in collecting forensic evidence - investigation after an appealed conviction, or a post-criminal trial civil action?

A neighbourhood watch captain who was acquitted by a Florida court of murdering an unarmed black teenager could now face prosecution under Federal race-relations laws, the US department of justice said on Sunday night after it announced a review of his case.

The decision came after a day when civil rights leaders expressed fury that a jury of six women had found George Zimmerman, 29, not guilty both of second degree murder and the lesser charge of manslaughter after shooting dead Trayvon Martin in February 2012.

Seems we may not have seen the end of the case.

in one of the articles it stated that the court played the audio of the 911 call on which could be heard a screaming person.

Trayvon's mother said it was her son.

George's mother said it was her son.

Nobody could determine whose son it was and so they were unable to determine who the true victim was. Reasonable doubt based on mothers' testimonies. Plus all the other lack of evidence submitted.

Yes,he could have appealed. His lawyers could have torn the investigation, along with the forensics, apart.Okay, that could make there client look "even more guilty",if they highlighted certain things, because i believe it would prove his guilt, but it certainly could have been declared a mistrial due to the doubt thrown on the investigation as a hole. He would have then walked away free.
Any good lawyer in a civil court, will pick up on these discrepencies, and he could be found guilty.
In the Uk,in a civil court,"beyond reasonable doubt" doesnt have to be proven, only the probability that he is guilty.wine

But there is a witness that backs up Trayvons mothers. His friend who was on the phone at the time told the court he said a man was approaching him. This is totally different from what Zimmerman said happened. She also said she heard Trayvon say "get off me" before the phone went dead. Now this along with the mothers testimony hold far more weight than the actual killers words and his mothers ID.

The evidence of Trayvons friend was totally ignored by the jury. Why was that?
