Obstinance_Works: I could say the exact same thing and I am 25. It's startling how bad it's got just in the last 10-15 years. And what about when I'm 40 and(possibly)looking for a younger woman? I won't be able to because they're all going to be fat. This issue is very serious.
And on top of this do we really need anymore social cripples than we have already?

hmm a serious problem, maybe you should get fat yourself ??
Girljuice: I remember when I was growing up as a child I spent a lot of time outdoors with my friends riding our bikes, roller skating, playing hide-n-seek, sports and using our imaginations.
Nowadays, I wonder if children have grown too lazy and prefer to play video games and/or use other electronic devices instead of having old-fashioned fun and exercise.
You can´t ignore the fact that technology plays a big part in our lives nowadays. Concerned parents will ensure that their kids also participate in physical activities. Most kids I see are doing both. Trouble is that nowadays you can´t just let your kids roam....danger lurks!!!!!
Everyone takes the piss outta people cos they´re involved in their gadgets.......ask them what they do in their spare time.......probably sat in front of the tele.....WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you think?
Yup , without a doubt they do . It's also killing everyday conversations , basic communication apart from turning them into zombies in front of computer screens , games consoles and the like . They all have the latest in smart phones , it's pointless even suggesting they get anything less than any phone that isn't fully loaded with tech .

Go build a treehouse - Oh wait, the council will complain. Go play cowboys and indians - Oh wait, not politically correct. Go play cricket - Oh wait, if Jimmy gets hit in the eye he's folks could sue. Go shoot your pellet gun - Oh wait, no guns allowed. Go fish in the dam - Oh wait, maybe you'll get a fishhook in your eye or Jimmy could fall in the dam. Go for a walk - Oh wait, maybe one of these reformed child molesters that have been released from jail will get you.

Oh f#@# it - Go play on your playstation ...
Sad, isn't it? Children are missing out on so much of the freedom we had as children.
... Too true, I grew up in a rural area and spent my days outside (if it wasn't raining). It was up to me to amuse myself, which I did without any problem at all. I ran wild in the bush, I grazed my knees playing catch and fell out of trees building tree houses. I swam in farm dams and played in mud puddles. I went fishing and learnt how to catch my own bait at an early age. I rode bicycles and fixed my own punctures. I built go-carts and forts and dug holes just for the hell of it. I played in the chicken run and rode the bull calfs, I got bitten by dogs and spiders and ate bugs. It was a healthy upbringing. Alas for the youth of today they're so molly coddled they couldn't even walk outside without shoes ...

Yep, we played "clay-lights" in the local river, my brothers built go-karts without brakes and we screamed down the hills on them. Played cricket on the untarred roads until we were dragged home after sunset for a bath and dinner...only to dash out the door early the next morning to repeat the fun. Lots of grazed knees and faces, cuts and bruises but we lived and we thrived.
... Clay-lats ... That was a ball, I lost half of my one front tooth from that ... What memories ... Sigh, sadly times have changed and the youth of today are pampered little balls of sugar and retalin ...
....hi M./bush.i like your comment....made me smile...BUT....at the same time very true...like you I enjoyed my childhood.....but at the present time....sending a child out to play....can be very worrying.......for all manner of reasons......its a sad world for them......like adults....they need to mix......I had 3 girls.....so I do know what am talking about......
Electronic gadgets. Here are my recent observations...
At Thanksgiving dinner, the teens were focused on the t.v. and IPhones during dinner. In fact, they are obsessive compulsive in the amount of they stared down at their IPhones...in case they missed an incoming text message within the last 30 seconds from a friend. The phones sit next to their plates at the table. The t.v. stays on.
I recently viewed photos from a good friend's family reunion. Without exaggeration, in almost every photo, the teens are not smiling and/or looking at the camera. Instead, their heads are down looking at their phones. In almost every single photo.
It saddens me, the breakdown of simply communication and interaction within a family home and family time spent together.

I phones on the dinner table - NOT in my house.. TV on during dinner - NOT in my house... the kids do not rule in MY house... so some of it is parents faults for allowing it in the first place ...
MadBushpig: ... and then got a bloody good hiding because your clothes were in tatters, you'd lost one of your shoes and you were late for supper ...
Yikes...many a damned good hiding. I got the giggles at dinner one night and was sent out into the yard, with my dinner plate...to "gather" myself. The folks were strict, jong!

so true .. our world has become mistrusting ( not safe on the street - violence and predators) , ridiculous rules ( ie politically correct ... can't play cowboys and Indians) ..
Parents are too busy to go play and have fun with the kids.. so what other choices do kids have? our world has become a very sad world ...........
tomcatwarne: They should have sent you to school like the other kids, I suppose Tarzan and Janr gave you home lessons or did you go to the missionary school
Oh Tom...we went to regular school..but we got a lift on the neighbour's elephant. She was there to pick us up after school as well. Ah, those were the days

So sad really and I think it'll only get worse as technology advances. I also blame the media for feeding it.
There is something of a reprieve from this down in the gutter. In fact, some of the only exercise going for kids nowadays is committing petty acts of vandalism and running away from the police, wealthier kids just play GTA V.

Fortunately my children /grandchildren are all sports minded, but still keep up with high tech, especially the London mob, their father, my son, is a programmer so they get all the up to date stuff.
The Cornwall mob are footballers and golfers, my eldest grandson played golf from when he was a baby, and has loads of trophies.
