Since nurses are part of this thread I have a story. Once when nurse was performing a procedure on me, she told me about her first time performing it.
As she began inserting the tube, The man pointed in the direction and said " see that scar my dear" yes she said, being very young and not knowing what he was talking about. That means Im a gentile! He leered

PrettyPrescious: Many Asian people are small, but some of them are tall, like the Mandarins in north China. My son is Vietnamese and one of his uncles was 5 feet 11 inches tall, and another uncle still in Vietnam is 6 feet 4 inches tall, and they are not small boned. My best friend married a Vietnamese guy who is also bigger boned and around 5 feet 10 or 11 inches tall or so. Some of the Koreans are very small though, although some of them can be tall as well. It just depends....there are small Germans and there are big boned, tall Germans too. There are some very tall Africans and there are some very small tribes as well; can't remember what the ones who played in The Gods Must be Crazy, were, but there are the pygmies too.
??? Mandarin is a language, not a racial or ethnic group. Could you have possibly meant Manchurians?? Quite a few are taller than the average European who are below 6ft. I’ve met a few over the years and 6 ft was about average. In doing research on the background of Sax Rohmer, aka Arthur Henry Ward, the writer of many esoteric mystery novels and the ‘invention’ of the arch villain, Fu Manchu, actually derived him from a character in real life while residing near Limehouse district in old London during the time known as ‘the yellow peril’ in their journalism establishment. Fu Manchu was over 6ft, 6’2” if I recall correctly from the province of Manchuria.

Actually Mandarin is also the term used to describe a Chinese leader or a person holding a very senior position, used from the mid 16th century up to fairly recent times.
The word comes from Portuguese, although the actual origin is possibly from sanscrit, taken up by the Portuguese when in Macau.
The correct question should be, why are Asians growing taller especially the men, a lot of Chinese men are as tall as western men, go out and pay attention,,
Bao Xishun (also known as Xi Shun; born 1951) is a herdsman from Inner Mongolia, China, recognized by Guinness World Records as one of the world's tallest living men. Bao Xishun - Wikipedia
