Accidentally losing a body part or a ‘sense’ could really be tough. Having had the use of it/them for so many years, it may be difficult to function without it/them.
(Hoping that you've never had to give up any)... What if you had to give up a body part or one of your 5 senses, for either personal survival or altruistic reasons (and could actually choose which you wouldn't mind parting with),….which would you choose?
If i'd have given up the test buds , it won't cost me much hustle to lead a normal life.. And it would be in fact helpful to my diet control ! I won't have to be dependant on my test buds to be satisfied and can consume healthy products that are tasteless or even have wired or uncomfortable taste !!

Really Tanzila? Wow, I'm really attached to mine... I like to savour food. Maybe you could give up a part of your stomach space instead (like when one does surgery - stapling or removing a portion of the stomach), but don't give up on tasting food. That's taking the fun out of eating.
If it was a family member that had kidney disease then I’d give up a kidney to save their life. Apparently you can survive and thrive with only one kidney so if It turned out to be a match I would save my family members life.

Very nice of you C...yes, I've heard that about kidneys too, but here's hoping that it won't ever come to that.
This thread quite apt...we have a case of a hit and run over here a couple of days ago .... Drunk bi*ch hit a cyclist who happened to be an off duty garda...severed his foot and took it with her wedged in some part of her car

i was born not being able to smell and i'm happier for it, to meny bad smelling things are in this world and i'm glad i dont have to worry about dealing with all that
I recall being at a seminar for Social Services many years back and we had a discussion re losing one's sight or being deaf and which affliction was worse.
Most said having no sight but apparently it's deafness.
Mind you from what I read on hear at times some people have definitely got no taste.
I would give up bone marrow to anyone who needs it. I have a very robust immune system, hardly ever sick. Not even sure I'm too old or even if they still do that nowadays.
I lost both my sense of smell and the ability to taste for a month..........never did find out the reason; whether it was a mini-stroke, or whatever.
It's pretty bad when you have to force yourself to eat something to keep your body nourished when you can't taste flavors in the foods. Everything tasted to me like a wooden popsicle stick does after you have eaten all of the popsicle.
I'm glad that everything returned to normal after a month. When I told my doctor, he gave me no reason for it to happen, but just laughed.
