In case you didn't notice, there were many conservatives angry over some of Bush's policies.Lorax68: He's the first president in my lifetime that seems to know what he's doing. ooby_dooby: There is not a shred of doubt in my mind that Obama is doing a great job as president at this point. He is systematically undoing many of the agregious executive orders that Bush put in place and as most people can see, he's wasting no time in this effort. Trust me, this is just the beginning of the task of restoring the morality and image of America in the world. The voters of this country made a horrible mistake when they elected Bush in 2004. I don't count 2000 because that was a fixed election IMO.
I never thought I'd see the day when a president of the United States would think it was right to torture anybody or spy on the public without a court order or imprison an American citizen without being charged or even allowing him access to a lawyer. This is not the America I grew up in!

somechick: I don't know how much of this is factual but according to the world wide news reports I read stated where people were attacking and still are attacking Obama's stimulus package and were just wondering if everyone had/has forgotten the failed stimulus package Bush put through towards the end of his term which went to CEOs of companies and failed to do any meaningful changes? Also According to news reports that these very same CEOS of those companies took the money and went on extravagant trips with other execs and how one even spent $1M to redecorate his office.

I believe in giving people a chance too, Dr. Bombay, but from what I've seen so far domestically, he's in way over his head. It isn't as if we have no precedents for this type of spending/government expansion and it has not worked well anywhere it's been tried. The same can be said for his foreign policy thus far. I am all for dialogue but Carter and Clinton both tried something similar in and failed. Well Capitalism has not worked. The world in in recession because of greedy bankers, propert developers and business men. Why not give Socialism a go? And please don't compare Socialism to Communism. I am not from the US so I don't know what he is doing as far as home polocies are concerned but he has only been in power a year. He did take of a country left in a mess by the Bush administration. From the outside it looks like Bill Clinton handed over a country in a very good economic state to Bush. What did Bush hand over to Obama? So who is to blame? Obama after 1 year or Bush after 8 years?

Welfarism is also bad for the poor that decide to work because it raises the price of commodities. A welfare system does not promote a work ethic and is in itself against nature.

I never said Obama is a Socialist. I said Capitalism has not worked. Has it? The who banking system nearly collapsed a year ago and many big countries nearly went bankrupt. The world is in the biggest worldwide recession ever. All beacuse of capitalist methods of business and banking.
Look at the large Countries that escaped the brunt of the recession. Canada and Australia. Both countries have a very good balance between capitalism and socialism in their economies. They have good healthcare systems for all, rich and poor, they have a good (not corrupt0 banking system in place. They ask for fair taxes, and they also have good welfare systems in place for those who are out of work or cant work. What this recession has shown us is that capitailism does not work if we let big business dictate like they have been and if we have an every man for himself attitude.
It took a lot more than one or two presidents to get us in the position we are in. And it will take more than one or two to get us out. It is hard to turn a big ship around on a dime. As far as Obama goes he is my president. But his lack of experiance has shown. Change is an action word and I have seen no action. The real cause of our bankruptcy lies in the selling and outsourcing of crucial industries to foreign labour and the instability of global trade, the same reason that lay behind the great depression.
