since my grandaughter got easy link for Christmas I have not been able to get on like I used to. I find we are fighting over who gets the computer and of course she wins.

For ten years I kept in contact with all my European friends... with snail mail.
Cumbersome, expensive, long delays but it worked.
My father got a letter and another envelope with a cut up newspaper (all adds taken out) once a week.
My mother got two audio tapes (each 90 min) every fortnight.
Phone calls were out of the question.
So if you wanted to communicate and lived abroad, it was was possible.

Personally, it is not something that I have to have. Not like Food, Water, Shelter. It is something that I would miss, I love to talk with everyone, or read their comments and profiles. There are so many different people. That is was I enjoy. It is very addicting too!

i too a few moths ago had even considered staying away... but then i was doing ebay so much i needed it.
and then before i came to CS i really did not do much more passed ebay...
But since i met Kissmedeeply i found my time has been sparatic... i just want to be talking with her on the internet or the phone...
But if i could have a phone implanted in my cranium and keep her on the line... i think i would never come back... unless she was snoring in the phone at 2AM and would wake up and roll over
so i would say i could stay away about 4 or 5 hours max... i even wake up in the middle of the night to to see if i got a mail i missed....
so i think Mark you can read into that... and i must say thank you.
It is people like you that keep me coming back here all the time... just to get a glimpse into the life of so many great people on here.

I've done that too, but professionally I can't function effectively without it now. Working abroad means I have to be in immediate contact with my boss in the UK and e-mail is the best and cheapest (I have free internet access in my flat in Russia) method.
It also means that if my family, touch wood, have serious problems I can find out immediately and get on the first flight home.

JH443: On Monday, Time Warner said they were doing maintenance and I had to go about 4 hours without it. I thought I was going to lose it!
Do they realy have to close the entire system down to do maintence? or are the techs just meglomaniacks that just push their bosses around? I have helped a friend work on networks that could not be shut down and they of course were not.
I suggest that you contact your server and request a refund for time lost , why pay for four hours that you do not have , their thought is 'why rush when we are being paid regardless', ,,dont Encourage them.
