Lostrebel: This stance has been debated here as much as "does size really matter"and I always say the same ....it is easy to sit in front of your computer and say "Kill them all" but are you willing to pull the trigger to do so...and if you are what does that really say about you as a person ,father/mother,..as a human being....
all you folks that think the death sentance is the cure all for crime should really take a very good look at yourselves as human beings
yourfriend2: Was not aware that anyone had said that?
ok let me say it like this as I may have spoke wrongly....any one that thinks the death sentance is a good thing should take a good look at themselves as a human being....and as they say here in forum land this is JMO.....

None the less, I stand by my original comment, if they choose to act against the law of the country into which they are entering, and the penalty for the particular action is death, then they must abide by the consequences

I agree ....but in my eyes it is not right ...and as a civilization I think we should have rose above this "barbaric" way of thinking...again this is ...JMO...

This is such an interesting thread...
We have a bunch of Ozzie young uns in Bali goals... awaiting death penalty for exactly this type of thing... We do not advocate as a country for death penalities....
however, no matter what our foreign affairs minister did at the time.. twas to no avail.. as he tried to build good relationships with our northern neighbors at the same time .. was virtually told to mind his own business when he tried to intervene with getting these youngster mules out of the firing line... We still have hype on Schaepel Corby and she is often in the news.. still claiming her innocence from a Bali prison.. as a population we dont know what to believe... but its very very sad to see grieving parents because their babes made a MISTAKE.
As for the drug trade... it will continue to go on... whether these babes die or not...
It would appear that the British Government have responded to the exectuion like the British Government usually do ....
They have "called in" the Chinese Ambassador to the Foreign Office for a diplomatic telling off, and for 'not listening' to Britains point of view.... We are apparently miffed that in the light of better relations between China and the west, they have not taken on board the concept of human rights as we have here in the west (conveniently forgetting the number of western powers that also have execution as a penalty for certain crimes ..)
The Chinese Ambassador's reaction is likely to be: " .. and your point is ?"
We really are arogant as a nation if we think that China is going to change its ideology just 'coz we think its a "jolly good idea" .... !
How can anyone commit a crime that carries Death-Sentence and be considered Mentally Stable? l don't agree with the Death penalty, it's a demonstration of a brutal and heartless society that is itself no better than those it is executing....

I am aware of that, but go against the law, good, bad or indifferent, and the penalty is yours. If you must smuggle drugs, and most smuggling is done for monetary reward, do it to a country where you will get a few years in a nice, comfy prison, then an air ticket back to the country from which you came
No, humanity has such a capacity for evil, some people DO deserve to die.
I believe that one of the basic principles of life are, if you cannot respect other life, and conduct yourself in an appropriate fashion, you have to accept responsibility for your actions. If your actions cause death, trauma and mayhem to others, then you have lost the privilege to continue living.

How serious would the trauma and mayhem have to be to lose your privilige of life ?
I mean if it was just a small trauma or mayhem of hooligan variety , would that suffice ?

I'm not sayimg i agree with the death penalty, but if you knowingly attempt to take drugs into a country where the penalty is death, you are playing Russian Roulette with your own life
