I think...and this is what I think...no I don't need to be attacked. Got it? Anyway, I believe that Israel should do whatever is necessary to protect themselves. I think there are many very very good people in Gaza and the west bank. It would be great if everyone could live there together in one state and be able to pursue happiness. However, nobody is garaunteed happiness in this world. That said - Remember - There is a place called Jordan that at one time was actaully called Palestine. If palestinians want to live in Palestine - go to Jordan. Have a talk with Queen Noor and ask if you can stay there. Israel is Israel. That is Jewish land and if anyone else wants to live in Israel that is not Jewish then they will have to get along nicely with the Jewish people in the Jewish HOMELAND. You know? Yada, Yada, Yada? Israel has been attacked enough. Stop shooting the rockets, Hamas. It's very annoying. And if Israel keeps getting attacked like they were being attacked for MONTHs leading to their retaliation....then by all means. Yes. The Israeli RETALIATION was necessary. It was all they could do to try to sniff out the terrorists in Gaza. It is unfortunate, but it had to be done. Israel did not start it, but they will finish it. Make no mistake.

aspen12: what others believe
Prior to answering wondering if you had any ideas of your own on how Israel might have stopped rocket attacks seeing as how Hamas wouldn't renew the Egyptian brokered ceasefire or, even negotiate with Israel (as their charter forbids negotiation and, vows to destroy Israel altogether with no compromise) and, certainly was not about to turn in those who fired the rockets for prosecution as war criminals.
Do you? Or, is taking this action the only option?

bollywood: Really dont understand why contires thousands of miles away have such an interest in a small strip of land called Isreal.
Simple. It's the problem that so many Muslim countries use as an excuse to hate and whip the street into a frenzy rather than that frenzy whipping itself up and turning inward towards the screwed up regime oppressing them. If you will note, the better off a Muslim country is, the less hyperbole about Israel is apparent.

jvaski: MY GOD........How you people can carry-on over a couple of countries ..............
It's like disgussing and worrying about the intracacies of a pitbull fight ...........
Israel is the excuse that so many countries who oppress their people use to deflect attention away from their own problems. Hence, a lot of disproportionate attention is given to it.
As well, if things go south, Muslims get killed in the millions so, it is a rather big problem.

aspen12: DO YOU ACTULLY BEIEVE THAT THEY WANT PEACE THEY WANT ANEXATION PALESTINES LIVED THERE FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS
They have since 1947 when they accepted UN resolution 181 and the Arabs outright refused it. Israel said in their declaration of Independence (you know when and where that happened don you Asprin?) hat they wished to live and prosper with the Arab nations around them but the Arabs, fronted by the Chairman of the Arab League said "This will be a war of extermination and a momentous massacre which will be spoken of like the Mongolian massacres and the Crusades"
And yes, Palestinians have lived there for a couple thousand years just as Jews have.

Yes. Indeed, many Palestinians there prior to 1920 were Jewish living there for centuries.

the Jews were called Palestinians! Ever since Roman Times!
The Palestinian arabs left their homes in 1947-48 for a variety of reasons. Thousands of wealthy Arabs left in anticipation of a war, thousands more responded to Arab leaders' calls to get out of the way of the advancing armies, a handful were expelled, but most simply fled to avoid being caught in the cross fire of a battle. Had the Arabs accepted the 1947 UN resolution, not a single Palestinian would have become a refugee and an independent Arab state would now exist beside Israel.
The beginning of the Arab exodus can be traced to the weeks immediately following the announcement of the UN partition resolution. The first to leave were roughly 30,000 wealthy Arabs who anticipated the upcoming war and fled to neighboring Arab countries to await its end. Less affluent Arabs from the mixed cities of Palestine moved to all-Arab towns to stay with relatives or friends.
All of those who left fully anticipated being able to return to their homes after an early Arab victory, as Palestinian nationalist Aref el-Aref explained in his history of the 1948 war: The Arabs thought they would win in less than the twinkling of an eye and that it would take no more than a day or two from the time the Arab armies crossed the border until all the colonies were conquered and the enemy would throw down his arms and cast himself on their mercy.
By the end of January1948, the exodus was so alarming the Palestine Arab Higher Committee asked neighboring Arab countries to refuse visas to these refugees and to seal the borders against them.
