jac379: Yes, that's how he comes across to me. He has this way of ignoring rejection on the surface and acting like he's likeable, a way of ignoring his own meanness and bad behaviour that beggars belief.
And yet he's tried really hard to hurt and humiliate me in every which way possible he can think of.

Its interesting that I reacted that way in the first place. I don't often go round telling people I don't like them. I might see posts that I don't like, there may be people I avoid, or have no time for, but to react like I did to this particular person and voice it, I cannot explain.

I wish I could work out who it is that your are referring to... I have been around longer than a year.. and some people come and go... but who ever you are talking about now... I am not sure...
I can think of many who have started off nice... then self destructed. and knew they were doing it... and then come back with new profile.. but this time I guess I miss too much of what goes on with the time difference.
In any case, these people have been quite ill. You could see that thru their posts...

Yes, obsession is a word that I've used as well, but everybody has the right to change their behaviour if they want to.
One's behaviour is ultimately self-serving - we each chose to behave in certain ways to get what we want. If we want warmth, we behave warmly to others, if we want hatred and rejection that's what we project.
Whether its about illness, as Merriweather has pointed out (and I think there's merit in that), or simply being in one's comfort zone, most of us view trolling as dysfunctional.

The best thing is to ignore trolls. Do not reply to anything they say, no matter how tempting. They love for you to become upset with them. They will repeat your words back to you, with snide comments attached. One particular troll must read the whole thread before commenting, decides the mood of the thread, where the most support is and then goes against it. Will always say others are pack attacking with a leader. When this is not so, actually you may see people have entered the thread hours apart. And may not even be aware certain other people have already posted. Trolls will report you before you even think of reporting them. Therefore do not respond to them. Leave the thread if necessary. Just post "Troll Alert".
