RE: NOW HIRING...

Two reasons. First, lack of skilled workers. Young dont know how and too spoiled to learn. Second, job is a hell hole. Like glass mfg, foundries, roofers. Or company that uses and abuses and fires and calls temp agency for new fodder.

RE: The shoes on or off controversy...

I have perfect feet. Why? Cause I spent summers bare foot running around the farm. Did I pick up bacteria..yep..reason I am healthy too. Plus dad was vain about his feet and made sure I got new shoes that fit as I grew.
I wear wellies mostly on the farm. Come in the door, step onto mat and remove. No way I am tracking barnyard all over. Way we always were. Shoes for outside. Barefoot or slippers inside. Dad and mom wore house shoes too.
I dont worry about visitors. But, I do remove shoes that I wore to town. Stores and sidewalks are bad. Dogs, spitters, birds.....
I guess things were not as dirty when growing up. At least the germs were local.

RE: Mañana, mañana...

My hero is Pa Kettle. rolling on the floor laughing It was a show back in the days of black and white. Ma and Pa Kettle. Set in rural 40s maybe. He was as ambitious as lint. She crabbed at him and he got into situations. The one I like the most is where he comes out of the house in the morning. He swings open the screen door which falls off the hinges and lands on the porch floor. He stops. Looks at it. Says...gotta fix that one of these days. And heads off down the steps. So that is my line lots.
Never put off til tomorrow, what you could have done last week and and wait til next year.
Age is worse. Not only do I lack energy, but have reached the who cares age.
As far as buying something, I am known to ponder til it is gone. Oh well..saved money. And there will be something else new next day.dunno

RE: Condo insurance increases...

Added fees are a pain. You plan on something and then they bump you up. Time shares are a good one. Idiots pay $5000 for a week so they can stay local or go to other resorts. Of course they over sell so people get bumped. Then the joke is they pay a maintenance yearly fee. Back when it was almost $500 a year. So they could have saved the 5K and paid for a week at any resort. Wonder what fees are today.
I have a farm. Farmhouse is rented out and fields are rented out. Both burn wood. Paid a couple K a year til they said wont insure. Few will insure any farms anymore. Reasons I got..more than 5 miles from the fire station. Gee, so is the other side of the town! doh Paint is peeled on main house. Ah yeah.because it is hard board siding over concrete block. The siding is impervious to fire, water, hail damage, wind...AND paint! The baked enamel is coming off and new paints wont stay on..too slick and hard.
There are trees and brush next to house. Yes...its called lilacs bushes and flower beds!
I worry about damage. But, then remember that over the last 70 years, parents and I paid insurance companies over 60 thousand dollars total. Gee...think that might have paid for a new roof?
I have already saved $5000 not having insurance. And getting interest in MY pocket.

Winter headache for my old age.

I have two houses. The one I rent is now vacant due to my tenant dying suddenly. So no one to fire the wood stove in it. Either rely on the gas furnace or drain all the water and close house for winter completely But, the water to the barn comes from the farmhouse. I would need to insulate the cellar to keep pump and water tank going without freezing.
The daughter and her man came last night and hauled out the piano left. Turned in her key so the house is now back to totally mine. I have sealed it the best I can. Covered doors with cardboard covered with aluminum foil. Plastic and styro insul on windows.
I am glad temps are staying above freezing. Gotta love El Nino.
Now the push is done, maybe I can take some breaks. Just keep an eye on the house and go down to clean.
Started washing oak floor and not as bad as thought. More dirt from his blasted dogs. So I think a light sand and re-urathane and be back to good.
Tenants for the most part never are prizes. The worst trash a place, the best just bring it down. I try to make the house nice and find broken windows, chipped paint and dirty.blues

RE: Open enrollment...

The ads on TV and in the mail are bad enough. But, I get a ton of scams from India. I swear, hang up, lead them on with hillbilly voice, tell them I died..oh...and the spiel goes on anyway.doh
I have a medigap equal to plan F. No restrictions, pay the medicare deduct and everything else is paid. $448 every three months for coverage I have no intention of every using. Wisconsin has senior drug plans that cost me $30 a year.
Advantage plans are a rip. Turn control of your medicare over to private insurance companies with loop holes up the ying yang.. Oh, sorry, medicare doesnt allow, neither do we. Guess you should have asked if that anesthesiologist was in your networks before you went under..pay the $1500 please. You MIGHT be eligible for these extras. IF that company says so. Restrictions apply..oops. tongue You can get two cleaning a year, free frames and cash back to SS. Dont mind that the premium costs so much that you are in the hole. And remember our plans change, sucker. Oh, that doctor you have..not in our network, you take this one instead.
I switch medigap once. Ended up company did not do as said and ended up back with first. No more! At least window for that is only a month in spring. Insurance is big business and they fight for advantage plans. Leave me alone already. NO!very mad

Relaxed old age my foot!

All we have gone through in our lives. And we plod on..one foot in front of the other. As Scarlet said..tomorrow is yet another day.drinking

RE: Winter is not coming!

Why can't people read history and science. The earth changes. DUH. Greta is a nut job. Just saw news on melting glacier. And scientists say even is all pollution, change happened tomorrow... it will still melt. We can NOT stop it. My farm once lay under an inland sea. Once was jungle. Once buried under a glacier. Know what? It all happened BEFORE humans made the scene!roll eyes doh

RE: More Important

Ego. Over blown pride in kind and self. It has always been. Family pride. Tribal pride. Nation pride. And we are better than you who are better than them. Why? Because we think so.
Now in this modern world of spoiled, it is ten times worse. Look at ads. You earned it. You deserve it. And the young believe it. If you dont act like me, think like me, dress like me, look like me..I hate you. Reason really? Because I have inherited primitive urges to fear anything different.
It all goes down to the basic animal instinct. Protect yourself, family, village. Gather all the resources to yourself and family and village. Humans are just like hyenas. Kill if you can. Steal if you can't.

One day it goes to H.

What a mess! My tenant died at midnight Thursday. So now I am looking at an empty house going into winter. I need the water to the barn. So...use gas, shut down upstairs and put insulation over windows. Shut off water to house upstairs, box well, pump and tank and run heat lamps? I told Eric who is like my son he needs to take the house. He whined, cant move in winter. Thanks for nothing.
He suggested his worker. Guy is not that responsible and has a woman and 8 year old kid. Nope! Dont need someones kid on my farm, barn, woods, river, wood stove. Now maybe his pa wants to move in. 59 and single which means he is old enough to have a brain. Maybe. Will check it out more before I say yea or nay. Had enough bad renters over the years.
Now the poor daughter and son. Girl was with dad when he died. Son was home. She is ?? 25? Older? Engaged, has house they are buying and works. Son is 20 and a baby. Mommy? Daddy?doh I need, I want. He lives with a gal. Til she gets ticked at him not working or fight and OUT! Mother is providing them their house. He spent the week, devastated at sis til she had it and said go home and go get a job!
Get this...tenant was a lawyer. And did not have a will, or do power of attorney to daughter. Even in and out of hospital, cancer, chemo, and lots of crap wrong. Had hip replacement and she thinks never healed and shouldnt have had it. He died of massive staph infection.
She said he had NO money. She is dealing with his law office, cases not done, house to clear out, funeral with no money, paperwork and all. He lived hand to mouth. Money in, money out, hope for a new clients retainer. She said cremation is $5000. Owes medical examiner to pronounce, $600. Put obit in paper, $500! Aunt did main state paper and that was $2000!wow It never ends. And she still wants a plot and headstone. She said get the Navy VA one for now that is free.
Who knows what debts he had. And no money or estate to pay them. Owes his clients?
I give her credit. She is strong and has stepped up to the plate and determined to do it all. Day by day. I texted her to get 10 death certificates because needs them to close things like bank and credit card. She is ahead of me..got 30! Good girl.thumbs up

RE: How does this work, Trump is allowed six more years if elected.

Trump had 4 years. Gets another 4. Two terms, 8 years total. He was elected, not taking over from another.
Your scenario is unrealistic.doh

Current trade ins at car lots.

Ev's require rare earth minerals that there are not enough on earth to meet the needs. Slave labor in third world nations destroy nature to mine them. Batteries are not recyclable. There are tons of fires caused by the batteries. The weight of them is harder on roads. When there is a collision of an EV, hazmat has to be called in. Electricity costs are rising and consumption is getting more than the grid can do. When an EV does need work, limit as to whom can work on them. Cost of an EV puts them out of reach for the average worker. Where do apartment dwellers charge them in congested cities?
The production of an EV uses oil. Plastic is oil. Smelting uses oil. Or coal.
All it does is more pollution and costs from left to right.thumbs down

Pa Kettle syndrome. Gotta do that one day. Funniest one was he comes out of house and screen door falls off. He stops, looks at it, says gotta do that one of these days and heads off down the stairs of porch.rolling on the floor laughing
I printed out this...some days it takes me all day to do nothing.
I blame it on age. Do that. Well..have to collect all the tools and stuff. Then do it. Then put it all back..sigh..tomorrow!sigh
There are high energy days and low. But every year the low outnumber the high more and more.
Never put off til tomorrow, what you could have done last week and last year.

RE: Ladies what's wrong with mid 70 men

Yes..you are able bodied now. But, how about tomorrow? Or next week? Or next year? One never knows the date of their demise. Or break down. It is scary wondering how long when one loves someone. And the older, the higher risk to lose them. One thing I see is the commonality of an age group. If I ask you what was that cereal that had Andy Devine on the box, you have a way better chance to help me than a 30 year old. And if that 30 year old asks me to name a song Smashmouth sang..I am clueless.
My dad was 25 years older than mom. And I saw her age beyond her actual age and live decades alone with his memory and nothing more.blues

What do you mean..55th!?

Thank you sister. Yeah..it is unreal to go that far. I was not pleased to drive to town, across and to the other side of town. Maybe 15 miles? I go out of curiosity. I did meet up with my old gal pals. But, realized today, we exchanged very little. Not much more than bumping into the neighbor at the store. I would think that those people who really mattered to their school chums, would be in touch way closer than just every 5 or ten years. So why travel 1000 or two miles for a class reunion.
I wasn't asked more than how ya been and how are things going. I did see some talking lots but wonder what they really talked about. I think people share more on FB.dunno

RE: Dominant Jean...

Did dressmaking long ago. Lots of men are the tailors. Strange is that the gorgeous embroidered saris and clothes in India are done by boys and young men. My guy can sew but needs it to do car interiors. I have a Singer Featherweight that can handle leather. A Pfaff embroidery, a couple more and my treadle. So what do I do now? Sew by hand.laugh But, it is a relaxing thing to do watching TV.

RE: Dominant Jean...

Can you explain why we have drawers full of new clothes and yet wear the same ones over and over and over cause the new ones are too good to wear.rolling on the floor laughing We patch and hide from someone who stops. If holes are strategic, we wear leggins or long johns. And can't believe those who pay big bucks to buy jeans WITH holes. From good to house to yardwork to grub on the car to rags to...???dunno
And one day we will die and all those new clothes we didn't wear will end up in resale donation boxes.
I ordered a pack of new zipper heads for a pair.

RE: Salt cave.Egypt.

I wonder if it is drying to skin. I like the cave that has the monster crystals that are huge. It is hard to get into. And in danger of extinction due to lack of the water than made it.

RE: From the horse's mouth ONLY

It is insane how Trump is picked on. Mainly because he opens mouth and inserts foot. But, at least he is articulate, mostly. And doesn't need a script. What you see is what you get. And they are after him because he doesnt give a darn and wont follow rules and what the elite want.

RE: Vacation in the Gaza strip

Agree Merc. The issue is the greed and land grab of Israel. They should be glad to have what the world stole to create a country for them. Instead, they want to push the Palestinians into the sea and steal their homes. Solution is knock it off. Let the Palestinians and Arabs have their own land and country.
I have no sympathy for Israel. Or the idiots in the US who kiss up all the time. Sow the dragons teeth and reap the hell.

RE: “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”

Want to see stupid? Watch the videos of the idiots racing through the flood waters in New York. They need a no wake law! Do they think cars can breath under water? That vent holes in tranis dont let in water? Or how about that electric computer. And the exhaust pipe trying to vent into water. A few drive slow as they can and not splash. And then the fool who thinks if they go fast they will make it faster than the water kills the engine.
Anyone dumb enough to think cars are boats do not deserve a license nor car!doh

PS..I crack up when they act surprised an old person dies. They ask the cause. Uh..AGE?frustrated

RE: They won't have to prompt Senator Dianne Feinstein when to say aye...

Meme is she died weeks ago and they just now noticed. It is sad that workers can't get a job after 50 and congress is the richest nursing home there is. Meanwhile taxpayers can't afford to retire or enter an assisted living community unless wealthy.

Only Amish are true.

Bad part of Amish is too many kids. I prefer the Menonites. They are not hypocrites. They use electricity in basic form and cars. They say god wouldnt have made it if not to free them up to have more time for prayer. Amish use the English's phone and cars to haul them around.scold
I respect any group who is true to their beliefs, but cast an eye on those who say one thing and then warp it to allow it.
Goerge Carlin said a ton of truths. Wish he was still around. I look at extinctions as nature deciding something is not viable. I have no issue with bringing back mammoths or dodos or pigeons. Man ate them all!frustrated Dinos..no. Nature saw they had reached a dead end and no other forms of animals or plants could make it with them. So destroyed all but a few like sharks and crocs.
Nature will not allow any species to become dominant and destroy her earth. So watch it humans and dont' think she gives a darn if you like it or not.tongue

Downhill from 1974

It is the theory or feeding a hog. It is one of the few animals that will eat as much as given and continue to grow. Although I see some humans that favor them. So you have a sow who has a litter and raises them all. She gets bigger and bigger. Doesnt increase the size of the litters, but now is useless because she is so huge she lays on the piglets and kills them.
People have to drive to work. Cities fail at mass transit. I have issue with all the people who gallivant just to do it.
The town next over is a tourist town..trap! The population is around 3K. And in the summer, runs over a million. Every weekend the cluster**** leaves the big cities, drive in mass for 2 or 4 hours to it. Too get away from it all. And bring it all with them. On Sunday they reverse it. So they can soak their heads in water parks and shop T-shirt shops. And they crab about prices and gas. Meanwhile they add to the pollution, traffic and prices while the poor slob tries to figure out how to make it to work for a week.
But, the people have been pumped up with you deserve it, demand it.roll eyes

Only Amish are true.

My point is the hypocrisy of protesters. A small fraction actually believe in a cause and take the time to announce it. Then you have the wanna be's who jump in to kill time and be seen. Kind of like the professional funeral attenders.
I see too many that just follow the crowd, whatever it may be. And those who want this or that. As long as someone else deals with it. Like sacntuary cities as long as it doesnt happen in their neighborhood. You know...the NIMBY's.mumbling
I would like to see the ones against abortion, take in one of those crack babies. The ones pro wind agree to a wind farm next door. Or a field of solar arrays. Take in an illegal migrant. Or a homeless vet. Or abandoned child.
No..it is always they think this but dont put their money where their mouth is. Or the anti fossil fuel do without the conveniences they enjoy.
Likewise...I never had kids. Too risky. Now we get to get flooded with all the ones from southern countries that think a herd of kids they can't feed is a good thing.very mad

RE: What is the best time to water plants outside?

Late afternoon. To early it evaporates or steams plants. Too late and can cause mold and rot.

Downhill from 1974

The automobile made this country. Jobs, travel, hauling. Too bad no one can afford them anymore.
