During the 1970s, André formed an acquaintance with a renowned hockey player from the Montreal Canadiens, the future Hockey Hall of Famer Guy Lafleur. Their paths usually crossed during late-night visits to the same bars.
As recounted by Rick Martel, on one memorable occasion, Andre gallantly carried Guy Lafleur in his arms out of the bar after the hockey player mistakenly believed he could match Andre's prodigious drinking prowess.
Fish and brewis. Its a simple traditional Newfoundland meal made of boiled cod (or salted cod), potatoes, and soaked hard bread mixed up together. This fed families over the entire winter months back in the day when you had to catch and grow your food. Most people add a little fat from fried salt pork for some flavor.
