RE: how will you vote

rolling on the floor laughing
Maybe your father just told you that to keep you quiet and fully intends to vote FF again.laugh

On a serious note I wouldn't be surprised if FF do a lot better than expected because a lot of people who are angry at what they have done nationally are still fond of their local FF TD, and may think of him/her on the day and actually vote for them. They may be at 15% in the polls but I wouldn't be shocked if they get 20%.

RE: Programming

Ah Basic! and do you remember MacWrite by any chance? I went into a computer shop last year that deals with apple and the guy there asked me what system was on my (old) computer, when I told him MacWrite hs started laughing!

RE: Programming

In fairness I think he's just joking really and doesn't really mind her looking for help. JMO.

RE: Tight Jeans or mini skirts or the casual look?

Quaddafi

Is he on the brink? some reports say he's fled to his home town where he still has support, other reports say he's gone to Venezuela, his son is threatening rivers of blood if the protestors don't back down.

Guards first. And if they don't seem to be taking it seriously then get a solicitor to hurry them along.

RE: Lost Items

RE: Lost Items

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

Ahem..born in '64 myself so had all that too! I'll never forget the sugar industry in Tuam and the pottery in Carrigaline ext. Your teacher sounds very like mine!

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

Mmmmm.....you took me up wrong, wasn't mocking just trying to lighten the thread with a little joke!handshake

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

And what about the major towns in every county in Ireland!laugh

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

I think that they are more important for an overall education.

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

Agree with you there but the point is they could be learning something more useful. Generations of kids have had blighted educations in this country because of compulsory Irish.

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

Am not against the teaching of it at all, far from it, I'm against it being compulsurory.

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

Just because you love something does not mean that everyone else does too. Stop trying to ram it down people's throats, Irish people have voted with their feet and they don't want to speak Irish.

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

Fair enough, I apologise for my misunderstanding you, for a moment I confused you with another contributor who insulted my family and ancestorshandshake Apologies again.

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

'A small community school'? that's exactly the point I was making. I agree with your point about language learning being good for kids, but why not French or German instead of Irish? that would be of more use to them?

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

I'm referring to the millions that the taxpayer spends each year on the con-job that is the restoration project.

The whole undertone of your argument and craized's is that you're not really Irish if you don't speak Irish, or at least not as Irish as someone who does, hell she even accused my family of 'succumbing to British rule' because they were brought up in an English-speaking area!

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

Well why not let the people decide then if you're so confident? If you really think that then there should be no reason for compulsion?

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

Exactly!

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

rolling on the floor laughing Another reason not to vote for Gerry!

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

It's breathing its last even as we speak!

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

Well if you want to delude yourself that's your business but please don't ask me to delude myself as well because I'm not going to. And while you're at it you can drop the whole "Im more Irish than you are" nastiness thing.

You might be happy to waste millions on a pipe-dream but not everyone is.

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

Yeah it's terrible when someone disagrees with you isn't it?

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

It'll never be the native language, get used to it, it's dying and on life-support, kept alive by the waste of millions of euro every year.

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

(Didn't know you were Dutch dude!)
If you give freedom to something it usually thrives. But this country is full of short-sighted people who want to tell people what to do, and give a good kicking to anyone who tries to stop them!

RE: Fine Gael's Policy To End The Irish Language In Shcools

Aha!!! So my family 'succumed to British rule' did they?rolling on the floor laughing

And while you're at it don't forget Cromwell and the massacre of Drogheda and the penal laws and the famine and the Fir Bolgs ext ext and if only Brian Boru had had a guard outside his tent at Clontarf he'd be alive today and Padraig Pears and revenge for Skibberean...............

Amazing what comes out if you give someone a little rub isn't it.!
