I love London, and I have worked in some of the roughest, most dangerous parts(Hackney, Dalston, Peckham, Brixton) of it as a Bailiff for four years collecting unpaid parking fines.
If I didnt get a death threat once or twice a week, I was not workign hard enough!!!
So, I believe I have the right to say that its a great city that needs to be loved a little to be understood.
I love London. It is expensive, and it is overcrowded, but it is an amazing place. Full of history and tradition, great things to see, and experience and if you like just ambling around, and absorbing the culture, then London is a great place.
If you want to do the touristy things, (The Tower, Madame Tussauds, The Dungeon, etc) then book your tickets online. 1) they are cheaper 2) you dont have to queue, just walk in
If you are there Friday Lunchtime then go to the Borough Street Market in SE1 Its full of great nibbles, and exotic foods.
Sunday is the market at Petticoat lane
It also depends on what you want to do and which bars you want to go to. Apart from being miserable old sods, the boys are right in that its a very expensive place to go out at night time.
We have those type of aquaria here in the UK, and it is perfectly safe for kids to put their hands in the water to touch the rays as long as the kids make sure their fingers are wet first. The only problems that people have is the rays nibbling the fingers for the human grease on the fingers ... its actually quite ticklish
Sorry, Jean, but Irwin was careless. He should not have approached any large animal from behind in his inimitable style of arms flailing and floundering all over the place.
He sure as hell would not approach a croc from the business end, so why should he believe that rays (who are a member of the shark family and can be short tempered) are placid and docile?
Would you, if you owned a big dog, sneak up behind it and then try and grab its ears? Of course you wouldnt, its a knowledge of the animal.
Some idiot divers will try and grab hold of a ray's wings and get a free ride. This does nothing but stress the animal and cause it pain. I have seen and "educated" too many ignorant divers about riding on turtles and rays. I bet Irwin was trying to hitch a ride with this ray. Great TV! Lousy for the animal
I agree he had been in much more dangerous situations, and maybe apart from his dad, knew all there was about crocs, snakes and reptiles in general, but from a professional diving instructor point of view he was a gung-ho nightmare who would have still been alive if he had taken the same care he does with snakes, with a large man-killing ray.
Under water he forgot the golden rule. Humans are not top of the food chain!
No. Its are inhumane as docking a dog's tail. They wouldnt do it.
The barb in a stingray's tail is for defence. If it wants its nose squidged, then it is happy for that.
I used to lie on my front in front of a stingray, and in clear view of it, extend my arm really slowly.
Then gently dig my hand underneath the sand it sat on, until my hand was under its midriff. Then move my fingers in a tickling manner.
They love it. It ripples with pleasure. I have done it for 5 minutes before now, with my video camera running at the time.
They are beautiful creatures with the same intelligence level as a cat.
Steve Irwin was totally out of his environment. Fantastic crocodile hunter, lousy marine biologist.
His death was his own fault. The animal was only protecting itself.
The diving community at large has no sympathy for this type of accident, as he should have known better.
Dont get me wrong, I found him to be a delight to watch and a very educational and intelligent man. But sometimes his enthusiasm was a danger to all around him
I have kissed a shark on the nose, and tickled a manta ray on its tum!
Also I can do headstands in the sand underwater whilst turning around in circles and when I breath in I go up, and when I breath out, I drill myself in to the sand ...
Funny as hell .. I guess .. if you find that sort of thing funny

I dont know .. you have stumped me there ...
