Its not your language to start with. It doesnt belong to anyone.
The US is a multicultural society that admits many people. US Citizens do not have to speak English .. look at the Amish.
They only speak English to non-Amish.
Having an issue with changing your pledge to Spanish is understandable. There are certain groups of people who live in the UK for more than 30 years and do not have one word of English. A classic example was an Indian gent who was punished by the courts for a traffic violation. He had been in the UK since the 50s and could not speak English.
His punishment ... ?
Learn enough English to defend yourself in 6 months time.
I went to see Iron Maiden the year you were born. I went to see them again in 1988 when they had a number on in the UK charts with "Bring your daughter to the slaughter!" Run to the Hills is my favourite all time track from Eddie and the boys!
As our lives change we need differents stimuli. The stimuli and newness of things has a finite life. When the dischord and disharmony that can perpetuate this forum rear their ugly head, it becomes less like real life than it already is.
Some people would not dare to say some things that they say on this site in real. So due to the anonymity of the net they can get away with social unpleasantries.
But there is a difference between "being in love with someone" and "loving someone".
There are people on this site I absolutely adore (love). But to be in love with someone is a different experience. That blows your mind, controls your every waking thought, makes you "feel" them when they are not there. It has only happened to me once in my life.
It changed my life forever. I will never love anyone the same.
I have had the very great pleasure to meet a few, and in the grand scheme of things want to meet a few more.
As the only thing that a Swiss is interested in is his/her next holiday, I can only agree that the Swiss are the most polite Europeans there are. But thats only to make sure that you dont get close enough to try and reorganise their organised lives!
Puccini chocolate is marvellous and is better than Swiss chocolate. Puccini chocolate is from Amsterdam!!
I am not a choco-fan, but would quite happily travel to go collect someo fo that stuff!!
Already there is a lot of Americans with natural dual-language capabilities.
What is wrong with speaking German or Arabic? You think that you will be invaded and will lose to a predominantly german-speaking country ... that would be .... Which one precisely? Lichtenstein?
The first time is never intimidating! I love first dates. What is the wors that can happen? You dont fancy them. But then if the first date is fun ... you have found a new friend.
Its the second time that is. Because that means you have made a good enough impression to warrant a second date!
The question is ... Can you maintain what they found interesting? Or was it all a facade???
Irony is a literary or rhetorical device in which there is a gap or incongruity between what a speaker or a writer says, and what is generally understood (either at the time, or in the later context of history).
Sarcasm The word comes from the late Latin word, sarcasmus, which, in turn, comes from the Greek sarkasmos, from sarkazein - to bite the lips in rage,- from sarx, sark-, flesh - the root word literally means "to cut a piece of flesh (from the targeted person)."
Sarcasm is proverbially described as “the lowest form of humor but the highest form of wit” (a quotation sometimes ascribed to Oscar Wilde, but untraceable).
