Ron Paul moves UP in the Polls

Ron Paul Defines Conservatism at Tonight’s DebateJanuary 23, 2011

The last question asked by the NBC moderators tonight was about how each of the candidates have advanced conservatism. Mitt Romney talked about his business experience. Newt Gingrich attempted to align himself with Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan. Rick Santorum did a good job in explaining how Mitt and Newt’s support for individual healthcare mandates, TARP and cap-and-trade calls into question both men’s conservative credentials.

Ron Paul pointed out that conservatism is supposed to mean smaller government and more liberty. Paul then suggested that Republicans have completely lost sight of this definition. He’s right.

Romney, Gingrich and Santorum’s records are all riddled with support for bigger government (Santorum’s own offenses include supporting Medicare Plan D and No Child Left Behind, for starters) and all three have been willing to sacrifice constitutional liberties in the name of “security.” The Patriot Act, support for indefinite detention and other anti-4th Amendment measures are prime examples, but so are the amount of money every candidate but Paul is willing to spend overseas in the name of “security.”

The reason the other candidates can’t find big government offenses in Paul’s record is because there aren’t any. The reason the other candidates can’t offer any spending cuts–much less the $1 trillion Paul offers–is because they’ve resigned themselves to the idea that America’s foreign policy status quo must remain intact. No questions. No reassessment. No cost/benefit analyses. All but Paul want more of the same.

Every candidate except Paul offers zero cuts. Every candidate except Paul consistently gives up more of our constitutional liberties.

If conservatism truly means smaller government and more liberty, then only one conservative stood on that debate stage tonight.

Ron Paul moves UP in the Polls

Ron Paul Commands a Strong Plurality of Hispanic Republican Voters in Florida

Garners a notable 41.5 percent of Sunshine State Hispanic Republicans who will vote in the primary

KISSIMMEE, Florida
– 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul wins a strong plurality of Hispanic voters in the early voting state of Florida, according to a new poll.

Paul earns a commanding 41.5 percent among this large voting segment, with Newt Gingrich a distant second with 25.3 percent. Mitt Romney in third place and Rick Santorum in fourth place fare quite poorly, garnering just 9.2 and 4.1 percent, respectively, in the survey of registered Republican voters who respond that they will vote in the Tuesday, January 31st primary.

Among the total voters sampled, Paul is in third place with 13.1 percent in the state, ahead of Santorum with 10.7 percent, remarkable considering the Paul campaign is pursuing a longer-term delegate-accumulation strategy in lieu of the Sunshine State nominating contest.

“Ron Paul’s support among Hispanic Republicans makes sense since Hispanics desire the same reforms that their non-Hispanic counterparts want—strong purchasing power for their hard-earned dollars, a regulatory climate hospitable to business and job growth, and personal and economic liberties returned so decision-making on important life matters occurs in the home and not in Washington,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.

“These numbers bode well for Dr. Paul. We’ve got a lengthy, 50-state national campaign ahead of us and Hispanic voters will play a part in the Republican nominating contest and in the general election,” added Mr. Benton, referring to the 12-term Congressman from Texas as “doctor” because Paul is by trade an OB/GYN who personally delivered more than 4,000 babies.

The Florida poll comes on the heels of news that Paul defeats incumbent President Barack Obama 49 to 45 percent in a general election matchup, according to a CNN/ORC Poll. Paul also bests all other Republican candidates among nonwhite voters when matched against Obama in the CNN/ORC poll, carrying a solid quarter of those votes, and defeating Obama among white voters 54 to 41 percent, and men 49 to 44 percent.

Newt Gingrich... Know The Truth!

Newt Gingrich is Not a Conservative (Pt. 15)

Newt Gingrich wants the Constitution to die. This is not hyperbole and I’m not kidding.

In 1995, Gingrich wrote the foreword to the book Creating a New Civilization: The Politics of the Third Waveby authors Alvin and Heidi Toffler. Gingrich “urged all Americans to read” this book. See for yourself on the back cover:

The Provocative Book
NEWT GINGRICH
Urges all Americans to read.
"The gap between objective changes
in the world at large and the stagnation of politics and government is undermining the very fabric of our political system.... This book is a key effort in the direction of empowering citizens... to truly take the leap and begin to invent a civilization."
-Newt Gingrich, FROM THE FOREWARD

A “new civilization?” Here’s the Tofflers’ description of what must “die” to “invent” this new civilization. From pg. 91:

For this wisdom above all, we thank Mr. Jefferson, who helped create the system, that served us so well for so long, and that now must, in it's turn, die and be replaced."
Alvin and Heidi Toffler

We can assume the Tofflers are talking about Thomas Jefferson. Understanding ”Jeffersonian democracy” is integral to understanding American constitutional government, the system Mr. Jefferson “helped create.” Is this “the system” the Tofflers and apparently Gingrich want to “die and be replaced?” Do they want to essentially murder the very basis of American government, law and civilization?

Even Mitt Romney at least pretends to support the Constitution. Good Lord, Newt.

thumbs down

Ron Paul moves UP in the Polls

Ron Paul Campaign Statement on South Carolina Primary

“The race for the Republican nomination is wide open—and is a marathon, not a sprint.”

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign released the following statement regarding the South Carolina primary results. Below please find comments from National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton:

“Ron Paul performed well in South Carolina tonight despite his focus on other states and campaigning in the Palmetto State for only four days.

“Dr. Paul quadrupled his 2008 numbers after tripling them in New Hampshire and Iowa.

“Tonight’s results also throw this race wide open. There still is no indisputable front runner. The long hard road to the nomination is merely beginning.

“As a result of their showing this evening, establishment candidates Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich will have a lot more questions raised next week.

“Romney and Gingrich have an abundance of big government positions and flip-flops for which Republican voters will want answers. The answers to those questions are out there and this is just the beginning of the scrutiny of these candidates.

“If the Republican Party nominates a candidate who supported the healthcare individual mandate and bailouts, they do so at their peril as tonight’s top two finishers would deliver President Obama a second term.

“After tonight, only 37 delegates, or 1.6 percent of total delegates, have been awarded. The race for the Republican nomination is a marathon—not a sprint—and our campaign has in place a comprehensive plan to secure 1,144 delegates and win the nomination.

“Ron Paul is the only candidate with the plan and record to change the status quo. He consistently polls the best of the Republican candidates against President Obama, and has the grassroots support and nationwide organization to sustain the type of campaign we are about to see.

“Looking ahead, we see a lengthy, 50-state national campaign. Dr. Paul is fully prepared to win.

“See you on the campaign trail.”

Substance Over Style: Why Paul Can Win and Gingrich Can’t

Last night’s results in South Carolina were not a rejection of Ron Paul. They were a rejection of Mitt Romney. Last night’s results in South Carolina were not an embracement of Newt Gingrich. They were an embracement of someone who was not Mitt Romney.

South Carolina’s results were also an embracement of something more base and emotional that many GOP voters are obviously hungry for.

When South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson yelled “you lie!” at Obama during the President’s State of the Union speech in 2009, he became a hero to conservatives—not for any specific policy stances or political positions, but simply for yelling at the president. They liked that Wilson challenged Obama.

When Newt Gingrich dressed down CNN’s John King at the beginning of Thursday night’s debate, he became an instant hero to many conservatives. This gave Newt a resounding victory in the South Carolina primary. Most pundits and probably even Gingrich himself would not disagree with this analysis.

But like Wilson, Newt’s newfound popularity is not based on any of his particular policy stances or political positions. It’s personality-based. In fact, when you examine Gingrich’s actual record and rhetoric, you find a mountain of material that proves Newt to be anything but conservative.

Gingrich won South Carolina handily because he berated the media—which conservatives rightly see as often being in cahoots with Obama. Gingrich won because conservatives want to challenge Obama. Conservatives don’t see this sort of fight coming from Mitt Romney.

Conservatives will also come to no longer see it coming from Gingrich. When looking at the actual issues Obama and the Democrats will undoubtedly challenge the Republican nominee on, Gingrich stands far closer to Obama ideologically than he stands against him. Newt is going challenge this President on ObamaCare? Obama will accuse Gingrich of being for the individual mandate before he was against it. And Newt was. The same is true of Romney. Challenging this President on TARP and the bailouts? Newt supported those too. So did Mitt. Cap-and-Trade? The same. And the list goes on.

If Republican voters want a nominee willing to yell at the President, then Gingrich is unquestionably their man. But if GOP voters want a candidate whose limited government philosophy represents a full-throttle, scathing critique of Obama, the Democrats and modern liberalism—there is only one candidate.

Newt Gingrich is surly. Great. Ron Paul is substance. Newt Gingrich can yell. Fantastic. Ron Paul can go the distance.

Indeed, according to most Americans only Romney and Paul can actually defeat Barack Obama in a head-to-head battle. Only one of the candidates who can beat Obama is conservative. Only one candidate offers the American people something that is truly distinct and a vast improvement over what the Democrats offer.

Yelling at Obama is not a philosophy and will not suffice. This President must be defeated. Paul vs. Obama will offer Americans a choice between the big government status quo and limited government constitutionalism—the most distinct and real choice in modern political history.

Gingrich cannot win the White House because he doesn’t have independent support, his negatives are far too high and his arguments are far too shallow. There is an inherent danger in mistaking articulation for wisdom. Barack Obama is a prime example.

Ron Paul can win the White House—and so can conservatism.
