The number of girls who'd get pregnant just to get a council house is probably in the 0.0001%.
And if a young girl has to resort to that kind of tactic just so she has a roof over her head then that's a huge indictment on her country and how dreadful it must be to live in...a truly shocking state of affairs if that's how far a young woman has to go...
Drugs were legal back (if I remember correctly) way back before the 50's and there were no drugs being sold on the streets or very very little . Addicts were usually limited to the wealthier in society and once they got their supply they could get on with their day.
The same idea is now being used in Portugal . They decided to decriminalise and put on little vans where the addicts can go and get their fix/or whatever and then they get on with their day, it's had a hugely positive effect and many, if not most drug addicts are now able to hold down jobs, pay rent and be a part of socieity. It's working so well other countries are watching it. And I believe Ireland sent a contingent over to see it and get mmore information on it....
Actually, the Irish CMO resigned a few years ago. He wanted the gov to make alcohol and tobacco class A drugs and drop cannabis to class C. but the gov refused. he was dead right too. Cannabis is far less harmful than either and there are no deaths that have been directly attributed to cannabis use. No man has ever smoked a joint and gone home and beaten his children or worse, his wife to death. Cannabis is a known anti inflammatory and is doing wonders for kids who suffer dreadful fits etc. The human brain has THC receptors, which means, at some stage we consumed it , probably quite a lot of it...but yet pharmaceuticals are seriously way more dangerous but are legal and for sale on every supermarket shelf. You don't see criminals selling ibuprofen and making millions out of it do you? if it was made illegal they would though and people would be queing up for them..
No, of course harder drugs shouldn't be legal....but don't blame the addicts for the governments bad governance or their not being able to adapt to a very sick society....harder drugs are just the next step in the legacy of bad managgement by preivious governments...
Nope, I came here of my own volition...and sure doncha know...the Scottish are just the Irish that can swim...
I was reading Scotland's history there during lockdown and it seems the Irish arrived here hundreds of years ago, which explains why Scottish Gaelic has so many common words with Irish Gaelic....and it's amazing how similar we are in looks too. I keep seeing people who're the cut image of (Irish ) relatives of mine...it's uncanny..
I can't understand a single word some of the are saying though, they always sound so angry too
Yeh Glasgow does seem to have a bad problem with drugs. I've also seen quite a few people walking around whom clearly should be in a psychiatric unit....
But Maggie Thatcher closed them all and shifted responsiblity to "care in the community"
Now those poor people are left to their own devices, have zero care, and are wandering around the streets, totally lost and invariably end up on illegal drugs...
That's the legacy your great leader Magggie Thatcher left in her wake...
It's irrelevant what they were sold at...the fact is they were sold, and weren't replaced...So the poor who either followed, or couldn't afford to buy were forced into the private sector and their rents soared.....That will have had all sorts of knock on consequences that the likes of Maggie Thatcher would have blamed them for...and it seems you do too...
Homelessness is a social issue??? What a really odd thing to say....The government of every country is supposed to do the right thing by the people. Of course homelessness is a social issue, social = people...and people were left without a roof over their head becuase Maggie Thatcher sold off the housing stock. Housing that was meant for the poorest in society...
Abusive parents ,unruly children are found in the higher echelons of society just as much as they are in the poorer quarters. I'm surprised you think bad behaviour is exclusive to the poor...or would try to use that as some sort of justification for MT selling off the country's housing stock.
Think you're just taking the mickey and trying to wind me/others up....
Yeh I can't be bothered with it. I read it a few times and found the way they always seemed to pick on you, Gal and Pedro pretty nasty....Tisn't like any of you do anything to deserve such humiliation...that I know of anyway.... I know who one of them is so if you want me to tell you then drop me a PM....
The unions didn't and still don't deal with the day to running of an industry or have any control wahtsover over it or the financial management/overheads/running costs etc. That's entirely down to the management, really bad management.... All the unions did was try to get the workers better working conditions and pay etc..that's all, so dont be blaming them for things they had nothing to do with....
Houses were a lot more affordable back then than they are now. (a typical 40k house in the late 80's in the SE of England is now worth over 300k and salaries/wages haven't kept up with those price hikes)..and what's happened to all those privately owned houses? They're being bought up hand over fist by vulture funds/investment funds/property manangement/developers and rented out at seriously extortionate rents to those who can't afford to buy houses.....and driving them even further into poverty...
Had she not sold those houses, and built more council houses instead there's be less homelessness today, as well as poverty, crime and all the peripheral fear that goes along with those things....
Then add crippling council tax on top....
All she's done is destroy lifes and if not destroyed them then dragged their quality of life way down and made their lives far more miserable that they should be ..How does that equate to her being a great leader??
Dr Who was just too unbelievable for me so I didn't really bother with it...
There was a good Sci Fi there a few years ago...I can't remember it's name but they had a ring that they jumped through and it brought them to different parts of the universe...and another one where some fella was transport from modern day into the future or some other part of the universe. The spaceship was alive and they had different species on the ship...they called it (the ship) Gaia if memory serves..jesus...my memory is gone to the dogs
For me, it's Star Trek, but way back when it really was about going where no one's gone before and finding new civilisations....these days it's just all about wars wars and more wars...the true spirit of it has been killed off imo...
Oh I love cold, dry and crisp winter days...But, having to self-isolate and just a couple of days back from the most amazing perfect weather; all I have to say about weather here is
They've already trialled those chips in the US...A woman (and her family I think) had them put in their arms...That was quite a few years ago and I haven't heard anything about it since, so I'm guessing the trial was a fail....Thankgod!
RE: update on my beard....
It seems like beards are "in" these days...some of us gals can't help but wonder what they could be hiding though
