Let the Dems, Repubs, and Independents have their own conventions if they so wish, and be on the ballot, but the people could vote for other choices if they chose (there would have to be a cutoff date of some kind so last minute additions couldn't be made. They would need time to print the ballots.) However, there would be no electoral college. The number of votes for each secondary candidate would be the popular vote they got fot that particular state (no electoral college, remember). What irks me is Joe Blow wins 60% of the vote in a state, so he gets 100% of the electoral votes for that state. That's not fair, because 40% voted against him. That's why I think the electoral college should be eliminated, and the popular vote should prevail. That would make us a direct democracy instead of a Republic. In any local or state election, referendum, or initiative, the actual vote count is used to determine the winner. If it works for those votes, then why not do the same on a national level?
Do you remember when Dewey was running for President? The popular vote was vastly in his favor, but the electoral votes didn't go in his favor.
Actually, Chik-Fil-A didn't spark any controversy at all. The LGBT community CHOSE to make the CEO's remarks an issue, which they didn't have to do. They could have chosen just to let the CEO have his say, and no one would even have known that Chik-fil-A existed. I'd never heard of the place. Instead, the LGBT community created an issue, and gave the business the best free advertising they ever could have hoped for.
What happens when someone speaks out about a controversial movie? Everybody wants to go see it, to find out what the controversy is all about! Same with Chik-Fil-A.
Seems to me the only way to know if you're blocked is if you try to email someone, send an ecard, etc. Also, sometimes you know when you try to look at a forum or blog and all you see in the OP's post is a red X.
Anywhere where Jono is would be a nice place to be. If it's good enough for Jono, it's good enough for me. Failing that, many Americans are retiring in Belize. They speak English, and I suspect they use U.S. dollars as well.
Well, let's see...I'm retired, and living on Social Security and a union pension, totally $800 a month ($9,600 a year.) If the poverty line is still $15,000 then I am way below the poverty line. Since Social Security is non-taxible, I did not file this year because I figured I was below the threshold for paying taxes.
Because of my Social Security, my kid gets $389 a month of Social Security, and her mom gets Food Stamps of $97 a month and medicaid of somewhere around $689 a month because of permanent disabilities (she can't work because of her disabilities.)
And, by the way, I'm not voting for Mr. Woebama Nobamacare," in case anyone thinks I'm part of the 47%. Hey, I think I just coined a new phrase there! So long, Woebama. See you never.
I just have a feeling that people look down on a guy with a younger woman than they do when a cougar dates a younger guy. It's just a feeling I have, though, and my own opinion. People tend to think guys are letches when they go with a younger woman, whereas a woman going with a younger guy is just having fun. It's a shame there is a double standard like that, though.
Most of the ones who are only here for the forums will state that in their profile. But, of course, we have to read the profile to see that, and some look at the pictures but fail to read the profile. That gets frustrating to the profile owner.
This is true. Will she look like her picture? Was everything truthful in her profile? Will I recognize her when I see her? Will the first meeting go okay? Am I dressed okay? Did I remember to comb my hair? And so on... Of course, it's a little difficult because I have no car and I'm a caregiver, which takes up some of my time.
As soon as the word "healthcare" is mentioned, insurance companies' and medical suppliers' eyes light up. Why? Because, "This is healthcare. We can make a fortune off this stuff! Woohoo! Let's party!"
The exact same thing happened when I was in the fire department. We needed to replace a ladder, so the department bought one. They charged us $1,000 for a ladder that any citizen could buy at a hardware store for $100. Why? Simply because it was for the fire department (a government agency).
Anytime the government gets involved in something, the price skyrockets. The government has had a proposal from time to time to allow the government to make bulk purchases of generic drugs, which would help to lower our medical cost, but is government doing this? No, because big pharma might get upset. Too bad, so sad, big pharma - deal with it!!!!
I don't know what Washington has, but the state government is hurting financially and is cutting back some $2 billion. I make $800 a month from Social Security and a pension, and my bills are $650+ per month, which leaves only $100 to $150 a month for food. Where in there is any possible budget for dental work? People are always saying, "We should pay for our own health care." Well, fine and dandy if you're rich, but I've been saying for years that it's people like me that fall through the cracks. Oh, well, I guess it's "tough luck, Charlie."
I would like to get some dental work done, but I'm on a fixed income and cannot afford to go to the dentist. What am I to do, then? I couldn't afford the $32 a month dental insurance, so I had to drop it. I had the insurance for 3 years, and never used a dime of it because I couldn't afford the deductibles and copays. I seriously doubt whether Mr. Obama is going to pay for my dental care.

Never go with the first wife. Just go straight for the second wife!
