RE: SEALS Dog In Mourning....

Can a dog die of a broken heart?

I did post a thread about this incident and thought I would reprint as it is a classic example of the extent of devotion from animal to owner

Their last journey: Tragic bomb dog Theo in line for an 'animal VC' as he and his master's body are flown home together
By Ian Drury

Last updated at 1:28 AM on 5th March 2011

Pair uncovered 14 home-made bombs and hoards of weapons in just five months – a record for a dog and his handler
In life, they were inseparable. And in death, this brave man and his best friend are staying by each other’s side.

A record-breaking Army sniffer dog and his devoted handler will make their final journey home together next week.

Theo, a springer spaniel cross, suffered a fatal seizure shortly after his master, Lance Corporal Liam Tasker, was shot dead by the Taliban on Tuesday.

Tragic loss: Liam Tasker was on patrol with his dog Theo at the time of the attack in Nahr-e-Saraj, Afghanistan. Theo died shortly after his handler was gunned down in a firefight
The 22-month-old dog was said to have died of a broken heart after the Arms and Explosives Search soldier was killed.

The pair had uncovered 14 home-made bombs and hoards of weapons in just five months on the frontline – more than any other dog and handler in the conflict. And when L/Cpl Tasker, 26, is repatriated to RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire next week, Theo’s ashes will be alongside his body in a casket on the RAF Hercules carrying the coffin.

A campaign has also been launched to award Theo a Dickin Medal – the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross.

The pair, hailed for saving the lives of countless British soldiers in Afghanistan, are expected to be flown back to Britain on Thursday, the Ministry of Defence said.

The casket containing Theo’s ashes will be handed over to their unit, the 104 Military Working Dog Squadron. It may then be given to L/Cpl Tasker’s grieving family.

In keeping with the tradition that has evolved, dog and handler will be driven through the Wiltshire town of Wootton Bassett, where hundreds come to pay their respects
Team effort: Lance Corporal Tasker was a member of the Royal Army Veterinary Corps. He and Theo will be repatriated to Britain together, next week
L/Cpl Tasker, from Kirkcaldy, Fife, was the 358th member of the British armed forces to die since operations in Afghanistan began in 2001. He was killed taking part in a mission in the Nahr-e-Saraj district in Helmand.

Only last month, the soldier, of the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, 1st Military Working Dog Regiment, described his joy at the close bond he had developed with the spaniel, saying: ‘He has a great character and never tires.’

The pair deployed to Afghanistan as part of the Theatre Military Working Dogs Support Unit based at Camp Bastion. Theo was the ‘front man’ of a patrol, sniffing out IEDs, weapons and bomb-making equipment hidden by the Taliban.

Honoured, the animal heroes
Lieutenant Colonel David Thorpe, commanding officer 1st Military Working Dog Regiment, said L/Cpl Tasker and Theo ‘saved countless lives’.

Now a campaign has been started to honour Theo for his work. The People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals charity said ‘dozens’ of people had put his name forward for a Dickin Medal, the highest accolade a military animal can expect.

A PDSA spokesman said at least one person has indicated their wish to formally nominate Theo for the posthumous award. Elaine Pendlebury, a senior veterinary surgeon at PDSA, said: ‘The Dickin Medal, recognised as the animals’ Victoria Cross, is awarded to animals displaying conspicuous gallantry or devotion to duty while serving or associated with any branch of the Armed Forces or Civil Defence Units.’

RE: Diversity...

Hi Bo, yes it is lovely when people mix the six, though it doesn't always happen I'm afraid.I guess like most places there are pockets of the U.S. that dislike other States. After all this is a massive country.

Even in the U.K. you can have a North/South divide especially in Wales, same for Ireland too if you remember.

As for U.S. bashing threads,I've often found that some of the thread authors are Americans themselves bleating about the U.S.confused

I also think it's about pride in your roots,so we should ALL stop beating up on each other and learn to get along.

Hope you are well and truly repaired now.hug

RE: I've just seen ...

Ooops! sorry I'll go back and have another look.blushing

RE: Hilarious Remote!!!

Actually yes Sail I did. Amazing gadgets that allow you to put a van just where you want it .Most are used to get a caravan in and out of driveways, before being linked up to the car.Must say the first time I saw it ,I thought, here we go men and their toys.laugh

RE: SEALS Dog In Mourning....

Hi Monti, I read this story with interest as it brought to mind a similar incident of dog devotion, only in this instance the dog died of a broken heart at the loss of his handler.

We have a lot to learn from our four legged friends about loyalty and faithfulness.hug

RE: London Riots ..

Had this sent to me in an email the other day. Just about sums up our state of affairs quite frankly. This I might add has nothing to do with 30's depression, the Wars,50's hippies etc. It's about today's modern society.

Our father, who art in prison, my mum knows not his name,
thy Riots come, read it in the sun, in Birmingham, as it is in London,
give us this day our Welfare bread & forgive us our looting,
as we're happy to loot those who defend stuff against us,
lead us not into employment but deliver us free housing,
for thine is the telly, the Burberry & the Barcardi,
forever and ever... Innit

No offence meant.

RE: Something To Think About...............

I've been off line for a few days so was not aware that you had a target in mind when you made this thread , but my comments still stand. It takes a big person to make remarks, but it also takes a bigger one to walk away.j.m.o.

RE: London Riots ..

Probably Wow, he didn't get the message then,no more than he's getting it now.doh

I get so sick of people bashing my country, continually harping on about how this country has been bought to it's knees, and who's fault it is. My last comment on this, as I cannot deal with irrational know it alls.handshake

RE: Something To Think About...............

The point is Monti that some of us are from a different generation, therefore find it difficult to understand that not all people have respect for each other. It's about striking a balance.

I have learned over the years on C.S. to accept this fact and try hard not to lose control when posting to aggressive comments,or turn the other cheek and walk away. The aggressor may feel they have won the point, but in fact they have lost the argument.j.m.o

RE: London Riots ..

You do not know me ,so do not judge me.I find your remarks extremely offensive.

As for 'my people' they are yours too,or are you from another planet.

Instead of apportioning blame to all and sundry from the past, take a good hard look at today's society.Immigrants work in this country because the average youth of today ,prefers to sit on his/her backside and be kept by the taxpayer. It's not just about economics ,industry, etc. It's about people too,and if you are not prepared to put anything in,you sure as hell won't get anything out.very mad

RE: Something To Think About...............

Unfortunately there probably are people on here who would not hesitate in saying what they thought to your face Monti.

So many have posted threads about how to behave to each other on the threads, myself included, but doubt any of us can make others be more reasonable. We are such a diverse bunch of people, and diversity has it's good side too.hug

RE: A QUOTE..... For daddy..

What cancer can do is make us realise just how fragile life is,and bring people closer together. So glad that you have had this special time with your loved one leigh.hug

RE: London Riots ..

Yep I know what you mean. At my age I'm certainly not brain dead and do have an opinion about this country of ours. I hope he never gets elected in during my lifetime as I certainly would prefer to be pushing up daisies, and probably having a good laugh at the 'cleansing process' and how he thinks he'll change us all.rolling on the floor laughing

RE: International Space Station (Visible)

Done for a purpose Sail,as the verb 'aggrieve' has more depth to it in this case, even if incorrect grammatically.rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Has anyone ever completed..............

RE: Social Snobbery

I didn't say England was petty, more to the effect that we have held our own against the big guns of the World. As for Germany,go ask my sister -in-law about the state of the economy there.

RE: Social Snobbery

Getting over World War 1 was a drain on our resources, followed by the Wall Street Crash in '29,which sent everything into a tailspin.

Just getting back on our feet and along comes World War 2.

You really have no concept of what it is like to go without. No ration books today are there.

RE: President or Commonwealth Queen/King: Who is more a monarch.

Not quite understanding just where you are going with this threadconfused

A monarchy is a government which usually lasts until the head of said government dies, and even then, the position is usually hereditary,as in the Head of the U.K. being our Queen, who will be replaced by Charles or William.

Cannot imagine the American government standing for that.

RE: Social Snobbery

You still spouting off about my generation Truelaugh

The trouble with the young people of today is that they are not prepared to help themselves, preferring to take from the taxpayer. Foreigners are doing work that our own people should be doing ,as they are not prepared to do menial work.

I raised a child single handed, taught her values and morals, and to appreciate the things that she had. I am proud to say that she has her own successful business, several homes, and is set for life.

All it takes is the will to achieve, determination, and a bit of hard graft.

RE: Social Snobbery

Hello Bowave

Remember the old saying in the U.K. "Where there's muck there's brass"
and to all those unfamiliar with this expression brass means money.

Way to go Davocheering

RE: SHould i contact my ex
