Like the man who got married and sold his encyclopaedias. When asked why he was selling them his reply was "My wife knows f-----g everything.
I have to say B ,although tempers flared during the thread, for the first time in ages I saw a debate that was contained ,with people stating their case without reverting to swearing and name calling to the degree that we have all witnessed on other threads. No mods needed.
I personally enjoyed the read. Well done for a thought provoking subject.
Morning True, you and I are of the same era,and whilst I understand where he is coming from ,to a certain degree, you cannot blame a particular decade for the state of things today.
Trying to say that in 10 years everything went to pot is ridiculous. I mentioned quite a few things in a previous quote that must have had an impact on the 60's,the Vietnam War for a start.
The young of today have not lived through the problems that faced our generation.Today's youth seem to think that the world owes them, well I'm sorry I don't see it that way. The whole world is facing financial problems not just us.
There is too much greed in the world, which in itself will breed contempt from those that are struggling to stay above a poverty line.
Paying footballers inordinate ammounts of money for kicking a ball about,so called popstars, fading celebrities being paid ridiculous fees for appearing in reality shows. Do me a favour.!
I'll probably get backlash for saying the above, but it does make me angry.
Our so called Government are ,as usual, making a hash of things and can't even agree on policies. Too much corruption in the ranks, and not enough done to clear it up,and that's in this era.
Well we at least agree on something! Today's generation does leave a lot to be desired, and when you consider that they are tomorrow's future, heaven help us.
It wasn't all "rock and roll" in the 60's.
We had the Vietnam War,the Berlin wall, and let's not forget the Cuban crisis which could have started a World War 3 Nuclear War, to name but a few incidents that rocked the World. The space race started also about that time.
I admire your tenacity to put Britain back on the map so to speak, but it's not just our country that is in financial difficulties. Power, greed and corruption have a part to play in the downfall of many countries, and you cannot apportion blame on an era, this has been going on for centuries.
Well I can't speak for the rest of my generation ,but all I know is that I was born during a war,saw my parents work hard to provide a home ,and care for me and my brother. We weren't blessed with modern day "toys" such as computors,Ipods the list is endless ,yet we were happy and were raised in a country that was trying to get back on it's feet after a war. There were no problems with drugs in those days either.
I in turn have done the same for my children and seen them turn in to responsible adults.
The youth of today is no comparison to those of my generation I can assure you.
By the way I'm not a fan of Mrs. Thatcher either, but please don't insult me by telling me that I'm responsible for the mess you feel you are in.
To put the blame on others is just passing the buck. I would be interested in knowing how you would like your world to shape up to your expectations and what you intend to do about it.
No good protesting if you are not prepared to put in some hard graft .Words come cheap it's actions that count.
I did tell you to get it seen to in a post on another thread but I don't think you saw it.
Constant pain is no fun Snuggs,I have had bone on bone in my right hip and finally had a new one on March 1st. this year.
Here in the UK ops are done within 18 weeks so I was lucky, and you won't be out of action that long, and you will be pain free which is the most important thing,
Your quote" the youth's future lies above the soil, your future lies beneath"
Sorry but I can only interpret those words as meaning us oldies should all be 6 feet under.Correct me if all who read your words and responded misread you.
RE: Events in time.
I was working in "The Fox Inn" in Bournemouth, and one of the customers came in and told us the news. Shocked wasn't the word for it.!
