I am the proud Mother of 2 children who were raised to respect their elders.
Actually my son is 48 this year and my daughter 43 so I guess they are not long for this world according to Trueblue
I think the replies on here speak for themselves.
You only have to go into places like B and Q,Homebase, any of the large Supermarkets in the UK and note just how many older people work there. Why because the Companies know they get respectful staff and happy customers.
Us "golden oldies" put the young to shame. They'd rather live on benefits,so God help the future for the young upstarts who think we are extinct.
Arrogant to the end. You wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the likes of the old who stood up and defended our country through 2 world wars. Looks like it breeds contempt for people like you too.
My comment was sweeping, as there have been some on here venting their spleen re past history as if we were ignorant of the facts.
I would hope that lessons have been learned, but doubt it.We all need each other and the fact that Britain is not in the Euro is costing us a packet bailing bankrupt countries out ,so we do have our uses. We are always the first to support countries in crisis, through natural disasters,so it isn't all bad.
Well, well, well. from what I have seen posted on this thread by some people I thought I was in the joke thread.
Please don't take that condescending attitude with me ,I've been about on this earth longer than you,as you once reminded me [past my sell by date wasn't it.]
You know what you can do with your advice as I'm sure you have been told many times before.
Read the Forum rules before you start telling me where I should post.
He passed away 2 years ago B,but he was a character and loved by many including me. My daughter gave him a fabulous send off even though he was only her step dad. Full of Irish humour and songs. He went into the church to the song "The old man"
Eloquently spoken my friend. History tells a story that some would rather not know about. As I said before a Nation cannot be held responsible for it's Government and the bad decisions made.
As I said before ,I don't really bother about being an "in person" on the Forums which is what I think the thread author was referring to.You would get too "emotionally" hung up if you did.
"How to make friends and influence people" springs to mind!
My real friends are in my life which is far more important .
Hi Dobe ,Knew you wouldn't stay away, and thank goodnes for that.
With regards the famine in Ireland yes it was originally started by the potato crop failing, but was not helped by the high handed government in England, hence the "bashing"
I can understand people getting angry, but to blame a nation for a Government's mishandling of the situation is taking it out of context.
You should try and read Joseph O'Connor's "Star of the sea" A block busting best seller which won many awards. It's based on the Irish famine and although not an easy read is fascinating reading. It wasn't all down to the English.
As for me ,I am and have never really been bothered about other's opinion of me.I have long since given up trying to win people over, and to what end!
I have had some of my friends for over 60 years, and they are the ones who know me and what I am about. Their evaluation of me is far more important than a fleeting chat or even difference of opinion on a forum .
If someone dislikes me or my opinion that's their choice ,and I'm certainly not going to lose any sleep over it.
I often respond to comments on here and get no reply, but as mentioned before , you cannot reply to every comment, you'd be on here all day,and C.S. is a small part of my life not all of it.
For example, Christopher Columbus's spiritual mission was to travel to the west and find suitable nutrition for the English. [/quote ]
If my history serves me right Columbus was an Italian from Genoa who under the auspices of the Catholic Monarchs of Spain made 4 voyages across the Atlantic, which led to general European awareness. This then initiated a Spanish conolisation of the Western world and the Americas.
With regards the above post,I wish to add that if we spent less time digging up the past and more time spent on making the World a safer place, wouldn't that be a step in the right direction.
Many countries throughout the world have blood on their hands.Allocating blame is not going to solve our future.j.m.o.
RE: Should We Cull The Over-50s??!
Think he's gone to ground Conrad. No pun intended.
