15 years ago, no-one had heard of it. I remember renting it when it first came out and telling people how great it was bu no-one believed me. It's only since people finally started talking about it that it's become so popular. The Tape/DVD sales have been increasing year after year. I'm not sure whether to be upset about everyine jumping on the bandwagon or be happy cause it's finally getting the recognition it deserved.
Incidentally. Foresst Gump won the best picture that year. Not a bad choice but Shawshank is def better.
Thinking about it. Some of my favourites have been ones with no special effects (or at least the bare minimum). When I left the cinema after watching Garden State, American Beauty, 500 days of summer and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind, it just felt good have watched a great story with nothing added.
Yep! Cheers. Have no problem with religion in movies but just don't pretend it's something else. This is an extreme example and I'll probably get slated for saying it but it'd be like sneaking scenes from "Hostel" into "Pretty woman". I've no problem with people who want to watch either of those movies but I'm sure no-one would appreciate it being thrown at them whan they thought it was something else.
I'll think you'll find that Lucifer himself was an angel in heaven until he fell from grace. It's always the ones in the best postions of good that come out the worse.
Well, hey. I have no problem with people who believe that. More power to you, it must be a tremendous source of comfort to have that kind of faith. My own mother works as a parish administrator and that's fine. We each believe what we want. But I believe that everyone should have a choice about whether they want to have religion in their lives or not. I was trying to go for a different point though. I just think "God did it" is a lame ending to a movie.
I don't actually have a problem with Religious movies per se. When "The Passion of the Christ" came out, I could either choose to see it or not. I am Legend bugged me cause throwing in "everything happens for a reason" and the end of a movie is like saying "it was all a dream"
The Book of Eli irked me a bit cause I had no idea it was about religion and it was a bit like preaching at someone who's not religious in a closed room. Like i didn't have a choice whether or not to watch it. (Now I know someone's gonna say that I had a choice to turn it off) but the storyline wasn't that bad. It just got me thinking.
Maybe they look around the threads for people who are loaded and this one made a mistake. I guess my thread about being unemployed didn't help my chances.
Just realised that the both have quite heavy religious themes. (Ok, not so much in "I am Legend", but the end kinda says everything happens for a reason).
I don't want to start a discussion about religion in general, cause that will lead nowhere good, but do you think "God is looking after you" kind of ruins the storyline somewhat?
I wasn't allowed a superman suit. Some kid in my infant school got one and jumped out his window and broke his legs so they were afraid I'd do it too. People like that are the reason there's warning labels on everything. *Warning, Superman suit does not enable flight*
And I'd give up forever to touch you Cause I know that you feel me somehow You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be And I don't want to go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment And all I can breathe is your life Cause sooner or later it's over I just don't want to miss you tonight
And I don't want the world to see me Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming Or the moment of truth in your lies When everything seems like the movies Yeah you bleed just to know your alive
Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls.
The whole bloody song just means so much to me. It was my friend's favourite when it first came out and then when she died, i looked closer at the lyrics and realised just how fitting it was.
Unfortunately a few people only said one name and if eg. 3 guys and 1 girl only put down 1 name, she can only be matched with one of them. So, if we don't get updates or changes to the list, it will.
Don't wanna say too much about it cause we wanted to make it completely secret and only send out a mail if there's a match. But remember folks, people joined up after you. and some of the ones who did may not have been on the earlier lists.
So, if you haven't got a match and realised that someone else who signed up should be, mail me or L so we can try to keep it going.
The first list did have one or two results but if no-one updates with people they may have forgotton then it'll just stalemate and that'll be it.
My aunt gave me a stuffed bear when I was 2 days old. Apparently I latched onto it and wouldn't let go. To this day it's still on the dresser next to my bed. If my house was burning, that's the one thing that would be completely irreplaceable.
You can get the Sports resort package for a decent price now. Just be carefull about the Wii and the music games. You have to buy the instruments and an extra controller for each one. I'd say ask again closer to Christmas. They often do good packages.
Religion in the movies
Ian McKellem.Stand by me is another good one. Funny how the Stephen King adaptions which aren't horror did the best.
