All This World!

For May that comes to us in year only once,
For faded dawn and slush of rainy day,
Place blame on anyone for messing up your life,
But never point at me, to you I pray.

All this world is not our invention,
No, it's not invention of mine.
All this world is not our invention,
No, it's not invention of mine.

The daily run of time is not contrivance mine,
It's bringing either joy or sorrow to us.
The world is so devised it happens all the time,
With not so much as hope to make things right.

All this world is not our invention,
No, it's not invention of mine.
All this world is not our invention,
No, it's not invention of mine.

The only thing that helps to deal with such a blight,
The only way there is in flicker of days.
It may be hard for us to scatter clouds in sky,
But our love may grow with each passing day.

All this world is not our invention,
No, it's not invention of mine.
All this world is not our invention,
No, it's not invention of mine.

All that I want from you is smile

Oh, do I really want too much?
Tell, did for more I ever ask?
All that I want from you is smile,
All that I want from you is smile,
Tell, is it much, too much to ask?

I know my hair is showing white,
I know old age will soon arrive,
All that I want from you is smile,
All that I want from you is smile,
Tell, is it much, too much to ask?

It’s only you to me that's left,
Heart's aching for you’re far away,
It is torment, but there's no other way.
Know not from where my longing comes,
Know not why thirst for you is such.
Tell, what is it you want with me?
What is the wrong to you I've done?
Tell, what is it you want with me?
What is the wrong to you I've done?

Oh, do I really want too much?

LOVE

Oh Love, you’re sweet for moment, perfect gift, for long - heartbreak,
At first you’re just a cradle of bliss, then coffin grim and grave!
Now you are mine, tomorrow - others, with no direction you do roam!
Where is it, tell me, your beginning? Where is it, tell, the end of yours?
Some scold you much, some ask and plead,
But all we wish the same, all to your will we yield!
Who wouldn’t exchange his life for bitter sweet of yours?
However lofty, feeling this would hardly last for long.
And though your sweetness then turns life to bitter lot,
Still it is you that we all search, how man alive could tell you “no,”
Who wouldn’t give eternal up for fleeting moment in return?!

Hear your voice I over again

Hear your voice I over again,
Hear and pale I grow,
As with the soul I parted ways
With loveliness of yours!

Had a torment like this I known
Early at crack of dawn,
I wouldn’t have loved, I wouldn’t have nursed
The olive-skinned gypsy girl.

What is the point to heat up in vain
Blood that has frozen in veins?!
To love me you, alas, have failed,
While I am unable to forget.

WHAT WE NEED IS LOVE

When you’re with me I feel I’m up in heaven,
Just you and me, and all this boundless space.
For earth - it bends and sighs under this burden,
It is too small in scale to all our love embrace.

Earth is too small in scale to all our love embrace.
When you’re away, I’m nothing, just loose ends.
To tie ends up, for heart to fill with grace
I need your love, cause only love makes sense.

I need your love, cause only love makes sense,
I guess it’s time we chose which path to take,
For where we go when tired of earthly ways -
To where our love abides in restless wait.

HEARTH

So I’m back home, now clock goes right,
While I was gone here reigned a hush,
And only silence screamed and cried
In soundless voice quelled by the dust.

Now it’s alive again – my hearth,
But seems as if its luster died,
Reminds old wizard thinking hard
Remembering secret lost in time.

It wants to turn the gifts of earth
And roots into the victuals good,
And give its warmth and sate with food
Me, weary tramp, now back, back home.

Silently to Myself

My pure verse is clean, its rhythm - song of candor,
Path of devotion leads to heart.
I'm counting "sores of being" slowly,
One at a time.
A poem is the tomb of poets
(And poets, I suppose, will understand my point).
Last night again I drained white night with vigor,
And now the moon waits patient at my door.

Scusa ma ti chiamo amore

Excuse me for calling you my love
I don’t know what else to say
excuse me for having given you a name
I only say it’s you
you re-shape my destiny
and put colour in the desire within my eyes
I’m not cold now
as I’ve learnt to cry
and I’m not afraid when
I feel like I’m being reborn
now I play along
I let my heart rush towards you
names come in my pocket too late
now I’ve got freedom
you can take it away whenever you want

A life to be re-written
inside your one thousand page heart
I’ll tear the poems which speak of us
of an ageless love

Excuse me for calling you my love
and I can’t say anything else
excuse me for not being able to have
the same years as you do
but I still have that instinct
to fly like a free kite
love is not conventional
it’s got no limits
it flows in our hearts now

A life to be re-written
inside your one thousand page heart
I’ll speak of a love which
surpasses the distance and never stops
never stops

I’ve got a life to be re-written
inside your one thousand page heart
I’ll tear the poems which speak of us
of an ageless love

Excuse me for calling you my love
I don’t know what else to say
excuse me for having given you a name
now you can call me too.

Scusa ma ti chiamo amore,
Non so dire nulla piu.
Mi rimetto in gioco adesso.
Lascio correre il mio cuore verso di te.
Nomi troppo tardi in tasca,
Ora ho la liberta,
Puoi tirarla fuori quando vuoi.

Una vita da riscrivere,
Nel tuo cuore che ha mille pagine,
Sfogliero poesie che parlano di noi,
Di un amore che non ha eta.

Scusa ma ti chiamo amore
E non posso dir di piu,
Scusa se non posso avere,
Gli anni che hai ora tu,
Ma conservo quell'istinto,
Per volare come un aquilone in liberta.
L'amore non e convenzione,
Non si delimita,
Scorre nei nostri cuori ormai,

Una vita da riscrivere,
Nel tuo cuore che ha mille pagine,
Parlero di un amore che,
Oltrepassa le distanze non si ferma mai,
Non si ferma mai.

Ho una vita da riscrivere,
Nel tuo cuore che ha mille pagine,
Sfogliero poesie che parlano di noi,
Di un amore che non ha eta.

Scusa ma ti chiamo amore.
Non so dire nulla piu.
Scusa se ti ho dato un nome.
Ora puoi chiamarmi anche tu.

The Kind of World We Live in

You do not know – I would have built a paradise
For you to dwell in – had a paradise in heart.
I could have lavished it on you if you had let me,
If you had chosen love instead of taking life.

The trouble is that people are alone on earth,
“Is there any living soul?” – knight-errant calls
Alone in field, and as in legendary hero’s woe
Same call of ours gets no response at all.

They say, the sun gives life to universe,
But as it rises, doesn’t sun look spent?!
All things are dead, the dead lie everywhere,
Just solitary people - all in silence clad,
The kind of world we live in – all regrets.

About this poem:
A poetic rendition of the last paragraph of “A Meek One” (A Fantastic Story) by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
Sitting by his wife’s coffin late at night the hero of story is lamenting the death of his wife who had committed suicide for which he is solely to blame. When it dawned upon him that he had made a mess of his marriage it was already too late – no time for making amends and restoring lost confidence. She had suffered enough to come to hate life and made up her mind already. He is left alone with bitter regrets – regrets and loneliness are going to be his sole companions from now on - all through his fault. “ ’People, love one another’ – who said that? Whose commandment is it? The pendulum is clicking unfeelingly, horridly. It’s two in the morning... Now, seriously, they’ll take her away tomorrow, AND WHATEVER SHALL I DO?” – is the question that haunts him, eating him up.

***
The verse is
Probably called
What to you, used to
Listening to silence,
A bird will bring,
And
You think is yours…

***
Sometimes the hush is such,
That nothing can be
Heard.
I like
the birth of words
That came to rescue…

The Teacher

Sometimes I think
I was born so that you should
Just look at me,
Show surprise
And
Walk on…

Winter

A bird’s nest
As a last resort
For the ravaged tree.

No title

There's day besides night,
There's joy besides the ecstasy of sorrow,
And a white rose has a black shade ...
And love is hollow, didn't you know?

Stars too become extinct at times,
The sun - it dies but only once.
Suspense of happiness is boundless, my friend,
What matters is the Path - though few can comprehend the end.

... A clever man attempts to gain much knowledge,
Wise man is bold enough to get to know himself.
The loving ones are those who do believe in wonders,
For once upon a time they tend to realize.

CHARMING WONDROUS FAR OFF

Oh I hear voice from charming, wondrous far off,
Hear voice as if in silver morning dew.
Oh I hear voice, me road inviting beckons,
Spins my head, as on a carousel I whirl.

Oh charming, wondrous far off, I plead you not to hurt so,
I plead you not to hurt so, to hurt me not.
From pure source I head on to charming, wondrous far off,
To charming, wondrous far off I’m starting on my road.

Oh I hear voice from charming, wondrous far off
Calling me, go, see the marvels of the world,
Hear voice, and voice is asking me in stern tone –
What today I have fulfilled for morrow’s cause.

Oh charming, wondrous far off, I plead you not to hurt so,
I plead you not to hurt so, to hurt me not.
From pure source I head on to charming, wondrous far off,
To charming, wondrous far off I’m starting on my road.

Oh I promise I will get more pure and kinder
And shall gladly help my friend out of the hot.
Oh I hear voice, am rushing to it faster
On the road that bears no step I head along.

Oh charming, wondrous far off, I plead you not to hurt so,
I plead you not to hurt so, to hurt me not.
From pure source I head on to charming, wondrous far off,
To charming, wondrous far off I’m starting on my road.

Oh charming, wondrous far off, I plead you not to hurt so,
I plead you not to hurt so, to hurt me not.
From pure source I head on to charming, wondrous far off,
To charming wondrous far off I’m starting on my road.

About this poem:
This song is a quintessence of memories of childhood, spent in the Soviet Union, of the way it used to be over there in so distant past. Won’t deny: I have nostalgic memories, from time to time, which is forgivable I hope. School years, pioneer camps, joys and sorrows, dreams children dream all over the world – no difference - haven't you all dreamed about the same?!
I’ve translated from Russian the lyrics by Yu. Etnin, music is written by Ye. Krylatov, the song PREKRASNOJE DALJOKO is performed in the movie “A Visitor from Future.” You may follow the translation while listening to the song.
And thank you very much – all of you – for inspiring me. If asked what poetry is I would most certainly answer: inspiration! The process of writing is what matters – forms may be far from perfect, grammar – a real disaster, style, rhythm and rhyme just hopeless – but do they really matter?!
