The Gobbledoth II

I’m stuck out here, no sign of life
This car they sold me broken
With dying of sun’s last light
I remember about tales spoken

No moon tonight, stars they hid
So dark I feel I’m down in Hell
No sound to hear, all’s deathly silent
This is not good, I could tell

Round and round my mind was racing
I remembered all the things I heard
Ready to pray to any god that’d listen
When something in the bushes stirred

My nose assailed, this smell most awful
Like walking death had come for me
There was only one course of action
Towards the river I did flee

The water was cold and flowing fast
Be miles away when I’ll touch the shore
Never again will I come this way
Tis the truth, I know the score

Between The Floors

Slowly and methodically he crossed the road
Looking neither right nor left but straight ahead
Eyes glazed over as if in a different dimension
The cars whizzing past he paid no attention to

Was it a fools folly or pure sheer dumb luck
Not one of the cars travelling so fast touched him
They wove around him as if in a ritual dance
And he, master of the dance, moved on to unheard music

Reaching the other side he never hesitated once
There in front of him was the Interact Tower Building
All eighty stories of gleaming glass reaching skywards
But he did not see it, just mechanically entered within

He bypassed the lift and headed straight for the stairs
Step by step, landing by landing he climbed upwards
Floor after floor passed but he never slowed down
Nor did his breathing alter, he was as if in a trance

One could be forgiven if they wondered if he was human
Sixty floors later and he still walked as if out strolling
Step after step, methodically and totally unthinking
It was only when he reached the roof he temporarily stopped

For a moment it almost seemed as if he was confused
Slowly he spun on the spot like a music box ballerina
And then the unseen and unheard called him on
Steadily approached the West wall and climbed the parapet

There he stood, arms outstretched, embracing the setting sun
Far below the world was tiny, as if an ant colony
Slowly he looked around, his face no longer blank
Seeing everything around him as if for the first time

Emotion after emotion chased across his face
Fear, love, hate, hunger, sorrow, but most of all, regret
Regret for all he was going to leave behind
But he knew, there was no other way, no other option

One last look around and a muttered "Farewell"
He stepped off the edge, a calm expression on his face
Someone on the thirtieth floor saw a man hurtling past
By the tenth floor he had ceased to exist

There was no body to hit the ground, he was no longer here
Somewhere before the tenth floor he had gone home
Home to where? Only he and others like him know
For if there is one then surely there are more

WHAT IS IN A NAME

I was heading out to Nowhere Else when I stopped of at Eggs and Bacon Bay. Well blow me down when in walked Delicate Nobby. He was carrying a Chinaman’s Knob.

“I’d better give me CockWash cause I’m suffering from Cockburn,” said he.

At that I thought that it would be better if I left before Tom Ugly turned up looking for a bit of Tittybong.

I reached the Worlds End where I went for Broke and bought a Banana and ate it in my Humpty Doo at Mount Buggery while playing with my Woodie Woodie.

After all that action it was time for a Nap Nap.

About this poem:
I could not help myself. After receiving about the tenth email today I had to let my humour run loose. One was from a woman from 'England' claiming to have a Phd, yet her english skills were abysmal.

Letter to Happygolucky4u

Ribbit, ribbit, come share my Lilly pad
Here in the pond it is so nice
With sun and gentle breezes blowing
When too hot it gets we'll jump right in
Go splashing to and fro
Then at dusk, before sun sets
We'll catch a few bugs for dinner
We'll dine like royalty, you and I
So what do you say Happygolucky4u
Will you come and kiss me
Yours hopefully lovingly...Rrrroger

NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH

The pounding of the gavel can be heard
Throughout the land, or so it is said
Nothing but truth here shall be spoke
By no word or action to be misled

Wolf next to lamb he quietly stood
No twitch of lip or blink of eye
Twas nothing there to give away
Truth be said, there was something awry

The judge spoke, his voice so loud
So that all could hear and none in doubt
Decision reached, all truths been told
In this court, none the law shall flout

Matters not whether rich or poor
In life’s station low or held up high
Truth is truth, and the law is law
Without fear or favour judgement to apply

Having lectured on about fair and just
A twitch of lip, a wolf like grin
No surprises there when verdict read
The lamb had lost, the wolf did win

LOST IN MY EMOTIONS

Lonely nights when I sit and stare, a blank wall and there is nothing there.
Over and over I pray and hope, will tonight be the night, but still I stare.
Silently time marches on, a faint crack of dawn, night’s almost gone.
This night was lost, waste of time, maybe next night, something to act on.

In the night where dreams hold sway, is there hope, I can only pray.
Noises muted, faint sounds of song, somewhere a party, just go away.
My eyeballs ache, there’s pain behind, pressure building, too much to bear.
Yet still I linger refusing to quit, while all around me there is only despair.

Every song sounds the same, tears spilled and memories of loss.
My life is over I now believe, burden I must bear, this is my cross.
Only now I realise, while it’s there you never care, this loss so great.
Tears to wipe to hide the pain, hide the shame while I sit and wait.

I hear a siren in a far off distance, the sound of train, a banshees wail.
Old songs from memories past, bitter sweet recollections my mind assail.
Nightly now I sit and stare, a blank wall and there is nothing there.
Still I pray and I hope, will tonight be the night, to end this nightmare.

GHOST

Hunger gnaws at my innards
But I have no money
And nowhere to call home

I drift past shop windows
Where I can see people inside eating
To the point of gluttony

But I might as well be a ghost

About this poem:
A sad fact is that the homeless and destitute in our society might as well be ghosts. They are mostly ignored and overlooked as if they did not exist.

Fine to Dine

Can you feel my teeth sink into you, tearing your flesh from the bone.
Agony as your nerves scream out in pain, but you cannot move.
No, there is no escaping as the ropes hold you down tight onto the table.
No-one can hear you scream, only I, as I savour the taste of your flesh.

I shudder with delight because for so long I have dreamt of this moment.
Been thwarted so many times when things kept interfering with my plans.
At last, at my mercy, incomprehension, shock, horror and much more.
Laying here, spread out before me, a feast for my consumption.

WINE

Beer is handy
A thirst to quench
And whisky is dandy
Puts hairs on your chest

But nothing is so fine
Be it red, white or pink
From the fruit of the vine
Lets drink more wine

DEBASED

Deep down she floats into the murky depths
Ever deeper surrounded by the stench of decay
Before she even realises, there is only gloom
All hope is gone, only despondency and despair
Still once more she tries, one more struggle
Eventually the realisation comes to her, slowly
Death is her option, bowing her head she succumbs

EMPTY?

What is empty?
Emptiness is but a chance
To fill up with life
