What Might Have Been

Doom, gloom and darkness
Descending down on me
Why is it we listen not
To what head is telling us
Heart says go and we blindly race
Into love's danger zone
And then we find expected joy
Before us turns to ashes
Nothing left but bitter taste
And memories of what might have been

The Man Who Wouldn't Take No

Here he comes, it's time to hide
He'll nag me once again
Have you talked to Jesus today
It's time you got to know him

I really don't care, I'd answer him
I'd appreciate if you quit it
This Jesus that you talk about
Doesn’t mean a thing to me

He'd only smile and start again
And tell me all these stories
Of miracles past and now
And how I need the healing

Thank you now but I'm quite fine
And I don't need your Jesus
So go away and leave me alone
And find another sucker

A meeting we have this Sunday night
You really need to be there
This guest has come from overseas
He spreads the word of God now

I'd had enough, I told him so
I'll come this once, once only
And when I’m done you'll leave alone
And all this talk of Jesus

Agreement made, I went along
The church was really packed inside
People singing, dancing and praising
Their worship appeared so joyful

The preacher man he came and spoke
About Jesus and salvation
Of how he died to give us life
And entrance into Heaven

Let all who need Jesus now
Come down for a blessing
Jesus wants to share His love
And assure your place in Heaven

My body rose by spirit hands
And guided down my footsteps
Peace and calm and lovingness
Followed the preacher's prayer

Jesus came into my heart
And changed my life forever
Blessed be my friend called Ron
Who wouldn’t take no for an answer

Ancient of Days

In the darkness of the night
When the stars shine so bright
And through my hair blows a gentle breeze
Then I, with my face to the sky
Stand in total awe, overcome
That all this my God created
And my soul lifts and soars
Singing praises to the Ancient of Days

Forever Enigmatic

Silence reaching cross time and space
There to wait never knowing
Empty promises quickly made
Promises not meant for keeping
How and what, where and why
Answers not forthcoming
Never knowing, never seeing
Is this how it was meant to be
Eternity lasts forever

Beloved's Face

I gaze on the face of my Beloved
Each line, each wrinkle I know there
The crinkle of eyes when she smiles
And the upturned corners of her mouth
Rosy red cheeks, the tilted chin
And lips like red, red wine
The taste of honey in her kiss
That lingers for a while
I think of time I not knew her
When Beloved's face was strange
I thank God I know you now
And you belong to me

About this poem:
A Beloved's face was not always a Beloved's face but someone you might not even have looked at twice in passing on the street.

Tribute

The brave courageous women and men
When disaster strikes are there again and again
Never once do they ask as to what is the cost
No glory they seek nor payment they want
For hours they toil and sweat with the heat
In smoke of fire from vast forest trees
In water they drudge when floods arrive
Or in dust of rubble when structures subside
To injured in pain comfort they give
Or a hand to cling to when death is near
A lifeline, a hope that things might be right
That somehow, somewhere, someone does care
Discomfort and danger a constant companion
Never a complaint of hardship endured
When the call goes out they always respond
The brave women and men, The volunteers

Foolish man

Oh foolish man what have you done
The fantasy you lived
Reality in day's harsh light
Is not same in light so dim

Your family, a wife so sweet
And children that call you father
Broken vows and loss of trust
Left now broken hearted

The pleasure short, now not so sweet
Long loneliness to suffer
Oh foolish man what have you done
With life that you were living

$15

Screams echoing in my mind
Twisting, turning sharp knife blade
Life blood trickling down
Across my fingers holding tight
I can feel life fading away
Keep asking why? why? why?
Just for fifteen dollars

A Moment in Time

Hanging by a moment in time
This moment stretched forever
Earth below me, sky above
Between them I am floating

Past my ears the wind is rushing
Setting up a fearful howl
Through the midst of clouds I travel
Ever closer seems journey’s end

Pulled the ripcord, nothing happened
Knew my time had finally come
Trees and houses so distinct now
See the house that I call home

Hanging by a moment in time
This moment stretched forever
I can hear the angels sing
Greeting me at heaven’s gate

Night Breeze

From where do you come
You sweet night breeze
The smell of salt upon you
And lands so far, so distant

How many leagues across land and sea
From foreign shores you come
Exotic sounds, and sights you’ve seen
And people so much different

I tell to you, my hopes, my dreams
I whisper all my secrets
Guard them well as you travel on
Till your journeys end you reach then

Bush Ballad

Tis a story told of long ago
In the outback of Australia
Where dingos roam to hunt for food
And goannas in sunlight basking
Twas there the story goes to say
Lived Malu - Barti - Watou

Now he was green and he was mean
No animal did like him
Made his home amongst the rocks
And Spinifex for shelter
Woe to anything bold enough
Near his lair to tread

A hunter bold and brave
One day did venture outwards
No-one gone so far afield
Looking for provisions
Listened not to stories told
Of Malu - Barti - Watou

Hunter hunted far and wide
For food to feed his family
Travelled nearer, always closer
Following mob of kangaroo
Round the rocks they jumped so quick
Right into deadly danger

A flash of green, was barely seen
As it grabbed all kangaroos
Where once been ten, not one to see
So quickly did it happen
The hunter stopped and stared in shock
'cause of Malu - Barti - Watou

Trembling knees and sweating brow
Twas then the tales remembered
Turned and ran to save his life
Across the stony, rocky desert
Home he ran to tell the tale
Of Malu - Barti - Watou

Life Worth Living

A leaf falls to gently to kiss the ground
A newborn baby's wail
The dove of peace flies smoothly past
The smell of new mown grass
Damp earth with first rain drops
A lover's kiss with deep embrace
Rainbow arching across the sky
Red setting of the sun
Ocean breeze, damp salt air
Flowers, colours all in bloom
Heavy fruit ripe on the trees
Children's laughter.....echoing
Joyous singing, rising high
This makes life worth living
