Mary and Me (II)

Mary and me we're sitting here having tea
When a robin built a nest in our tree
Four and twenty blackbirds came sat in our pie
They were joined by Henry the old horsefly
Up climbed some squirrels, one, two, three
Danced round the table and finished with a curtsey
Along came a bear, big, fat and cuddly
Climbed up the tree into our cubby
I looked at Mary and she looked at me
Not again, but we both could see
Living in a tree was just no good
Even if it was a mighty redwood
Now Mary and me we're having tea
We built our home at the bottom of the sea

Sounds of Love Breaking

What is the sound of one hand clapping
Shhhhhh, listen very hard
Can you hear it, hear the noise
The sound is deafening in my ears

What is the sound of a heart breaking
Tearing, splintering, falling apart
Can you hear it, this sound so painful
Broken pieces dropping all around

What is the sound of broken trust
Broken, smashed, beyond repair
Can you hear it, shattering glass
Pieces scattered in every direction

What is the sound of faith breaking
Day by day the pieces break off
Can you hear it, the sounds of despair
Gradually, little by little it breaks away

What is the sound of love dying
Love that was so strong and true
Can you hear it, sounds like silence
That will separate you from me

Christmas

Through the keyhole slyly I peek
To see what lays beyond there
Has Santa come, the presents brought
And piled them high in there

What did he bring for me this year
So gaily wrapped these presents
I tried my best, I really did
I thought I'd been a good boy

I'd love a bike, or pogo stick
Or even an electric train set
Maybe a car to pedal around
Or an outfit like a cowboy

Yet all I saw when peek I did
Was mum and dad in there
Off to bed I'd better go
Or Santa might not be coming

Allah / Jehovah

Bombs go off, the bodies mount
Terrorists they rise
In Allah's name we will fight
A cry reverberates

One is east and one is west
So different must they be
One serve Allah, the other Jehovah
Never the twain shall meet

Both have wives and child at knee
Hopes and dreams, a future to see
Work so hard to provide
A better life for the family

So much alike, so little different
Hate and war who is teaching
Hands reach out, grasp another
Work on peace, love each other

Centennial Park (I & II)

Fooling No-one

You who come to Centennial Park
To visit your dead and buried
You weep and moan over tombstone so proud
Is it because you're remembering

You spend your thousands on monuments grand
And strut around in pretence
See how much I cared for them
This shrine I built according

And yet when lived your loved one
You abused and neglected
Left too late to make amends
Your conscience to be salving

So shed your tears and beat your breast
And show the world you're mourning
Deep inside you know I know
You're really fooling no-one

Centennial Park Revisited

Humble stone at head does stand
And simple is inscription
Beloved father and husband of
And there followed descriptions

This humble grave so loving kept
By this woman and her children
One could see by a single glance
That this was a happy family

A single tear slid down my cheek
The cynic was abated
Not all is lost, there is hope yet
That love might somehow triumph

Money

You who worship at this altar called money
And think that there is nothing it cannot buy
That happiness comes with many belongings
And even love it will buy for you

You so foolish, a false god you serve
That cheating and stealing justifies the end
All this money, this generated wealth
Can't buy a ticket on the heaven bound express

Unborn's Lament

Mummy dear please listen now
A voice within you deep
My life so brief, just begun
The world I want to see

When eyes first open to peer about
Your face I want to see
Hands that hold me oh so close
Your breath upon my cheek

Gentle voice that croons at night
To send me off to sleep
A warm embrace upon awake
A whispered I love you

I want to see adoring looks
As first steps I take
The startled rush to give me aid
If I stumble or should I fall

Hear the praises you bestow
As first words I speak
See the sparkle in your eyes
When I say I love you

Slowly I grow, yet quickly too
The time is almost near
You buy me clothes, a uniform
In school I need to be

My little cheeks with tears are wet
You find it hard to leave
'It's only school, we talked of this
You'll enjoy yourself today'

A backward glance, you see me cry
And hurry back to me
You kiss away my flowing tears
Because you love me so

The years go on, I study hard
To make you proud of me
A gown I wear to graduate
To a life we planned for me

The boys they come, the boys they go
And none I take too serious
I bring a man, a loving man
This one I plan to marry

How proud your looks I see they are
As I walk down the aisle
A gentle sob I hear escape
As I say yes I do

And as we leave you're first in line
To hold me tight and cry
Thank you mum for all you've done
The life you've given me

A gentle stirring within I feel
The first sign of life
You share with me excited dreams
A Grandma you will be

A child is born, a little boy
We cry to see the sight
Hand in hand we sit on bed
And plan a future bright

The years stretch on and love abounds
Grand children are all around
Their faces bright, their eyes so clear
Oh Nanna we love you

And when you're old and not so firm
For help we are so near
To make your life a life of ease
In our home you will be

When your years the end they reach
And near death's door you lay
I will be there your hand to hold
Your grand kids by your side

And when you've passed, no longer here
You'll always be with us
Your memory honoured be
Not long forgotten dust

Mummy dear please listen now
A voice within you deep
My life so brief, just begun
The world I want to see

If you abort, not let me live
So much we both shall miss
A lifetime of happiness
Is what I offer thee

So mummy dear, this is your child
A daughter fair an true
I'm here in you, a part of you
Please don't murder me

About this poem:
Many years ago a close friend was in this predicament...she swears that the child talked to her in her sleep...it was brewing in my mind for a while and I forgot it... when I met the lady in question recently I found out that the daughter she had almost lived her life the way she dreamed it...this poem is the result...I mean no offence to anyone.

Little Country Garden

Come live with me in country town
We'll spend this life together
Sit at dusk and sip our wine
And watch sun slowly sinking
It disappears where sky kisses earth
And moon is slowly rising
One by one the stars appear
Twinkling ever brighter
And here we sit, arms surround
In our little country garden

Christmas Presents

Eyes bright, wide, alight
Round the Christmas tree
Mum, Dad, let us see
What Santa's brought for me

A fire truck with sirens loud
And a hat that goes with it
A fire chief I can be
And pretend in the truck I'm sitting

A helicopter black and shiny
High in the air I'll fly
Down below the people wave
As I go passing by

A submarine so I can dive
Deep below the sea
And watch the fish
Swim all around

But most of all
Please Mummy and Daddy
Let the new baby be
A boy for me to play with

My Friend

Many people come and go
Not all that touch you
You my friend have touched me deep
A stirring in my soul

When I'm down and misery hits
You are the one I count on
A cheerful smile, encouraging word
And soon I'm feeling better

When I'm wrong and really mess up
You are there to support me
Never once do you criticise
A sign of true friendship

So when I lay late at night
Staring at the ceiling
My thanks I give to the Lord
For sending me your friendship

Demons of Old

You demons on the shoulder sit
And whisper all this evil
All these lies that you tell
And try to make us believe them

You're too short, you're too fat
So nobody will like you
No brains at all, you're so dumb
You'll never amount to anything

Don't bother now, don't even try
You're guaranteed to fail it
Just sit right back, shut your mouth
You have nothing to contribute

On and on you spit these words
Of hate and vitriolic nonsense
Anything just so that I will doubt
I'm really a worthy person
